Using australian Q9h in USA

Hi guys,

I bought a q9h from ebay...and it worked fine here in australia for me...but I have a friend doing exchange in USA atm who needed a phone, I got myself a shiny iphone and sent her my q9.

The phone is not locked to any carrier.

When she put her US sim into it it asked her to choose her country...'Australia, fiji or NZ'

her US sim cards dont work, neither does global roaming work on her australia sims. The australian sim appeared to work, but she cant send or receive messages.

Is there any solution for this?

its a quad band phone so i dont see why it wouldnt work...
