Orange rip off? :(

I've had my Orange contract for about 4 years, spending over £50 a month for the entire contract. I renewed last year and got a HTC Touch for free, and renewed my contract for a year. It's been about 15 months since then, so I thought that I'd be OK getting a HD Touch for free too.

So I went to the Orange shop on Oxford Street/Dean Street (closest to my work) and asked for an upgrade. Apparently it's going to cost me £80. I asked how much it would be if I started a new contract and he said £40.

I don't understand how I can be charged double that of a new customer!?

Should I switch to another provider and wait for the Orange exclusive deal to end?

If you use data then........yes.

I went back to Orange to get this handset but they still don't offer a decent unlimited data package, they are litterally years behind the competition on this now, they want £8 for 30mb, as if. Or £42 for 80mb. You can get a lot more for £7.50 on every other network.

Luckily I don't use data that much out and about apart from where I can get free wi-fi.

If you do want to get one on Orange go through mobiles.co.uk and get it free on plans £35 a month or more and bag yourself some cashback and a free bluetooth headset aswell, don't bother with the rip off upgrade. I believe mobiles.co.uk were getting them in stock on O2 as well very soon. I would get it on O2 if I were you, don't make my mistake!

Guys, you dont have to get a new Orange contract from Orange, I got mine from buymobilephones.net

Racoon30, free touch HD, 18mth contract, 3mths free insurance, 500mins 100txt unlimited landline calls.

Then when you get it, ring up Orange to get Orange world unlimited for £7.50 (fair usage 250Mb - some seem to get 500Mb! - I was told it was 500Mb but my account sayes250Mb so Im going to have to check)

orange do give 500mb if existing customers upgrade for 18m contract thru them, Ideally the Racoon35 comes with a free 500mb data for existing customers on £35 Tariff.

I have been very happy with Orange for many years. When it comes time to renew I tell them I have seen whatever deal I want at a competing network and am thinking of leaving. They then try and offer a better deal. If you get through to an unhelpful soandso then just call back later until you get a super helpful person who wants to make you happy!

My current deal = 700mins, unlimited text, unlimted data (with 250MB fair usage) and free insurance. 18 month contract, Touch HD @ £80.....

£22.50pcm B)

I'm a new orange customer, came over from t-mob. I cut a deal with internet included and i'm paying £30 a month. On my bill it says 'unlimited internet'. Dunno if thats 250mb or more, the woman on the phone when i activated did say that they didnt offer it to many people.. i didnt argue! Havent been charged for any data yet, so i think its set up correctly.

Ha! Same here. I called them up the day after I got it and asked what they could do for me datawise. Said £7.50 for 256mb and I asked what else they had. Put me on hold for 5 minutes and came back saying theres nothing else available unfortunately. He did say for my trouble though I could have the 256mb for free! Not a great size but my syncing and whatnot can be done via wireless so works out really well. £30 for 400xnet minutes, unlim texts and 256mb net. Oh yeah; and a Touch HD B) Bargain!

There are better deals about on Orange. I recently (October) managed to get a good deal for my brother and my wife. I am a Orange Premier customer and managed to get a good upgrade deal for my wife £10.00pm for 200 min, unlimited texts 60 min video calling and 500MB fup of data. My brother took out a new contract with Orange with a E71. He added the £7.50 250mb data pack but had used most of it after 6 days. So I called up CS on his behalf and said that he would have to return the phone under the DSRs as they could not provide him a good data allowance. It took 3 calls to get it sorted the fist call and they gave him the Blackberry bundle for £2.50 250mb FUP the second call I managed to get him 60 min of video calling and the 3 call I managed to get them to add on the unlimited data bundle 500mb fup. So for his £32.50 pm he has 700 min 100 texts unlimited landline calls 60 min of video calls and 750 mb FUP 2 data packs. This was all done in the space of his first week of a new contract. So the deals are out there you just have to ask CS very very nicely.

Well, I've being on Orange for a good few years now, I've four with my family....phoned the other day wanting to upgrade, asked for the Samsung Omnia, got the reply they don't have it, didn't even have a button on the Comp for it either, she say's B)

Told her that I'd read on the Internet that Orange had them, & were only giving them to new customers.....not true she say's,.... I want to take my mobile number to my new contract aswell,..... you cannot, you'll have to upgrade with us,...... but you haven't got the phone that I want,..... pick another then..... OK, can I have my PAC Code then...no prob's, take a couple of days to come through, I then hung up.

Had a good think about it, some good reports on here with Vodafone, searched there website, looked more expensive than the rest, (no free phone), so I phoned them.

Got talking to a rep...what phone do you want....I900 Omnia....I can do a deal today for you, 600mins x Unlimited Texts....Unlimited Data, & Email, + a free Phone, all for the price I was on Orange for,

You've guessed it,.....I'm on Vodafone now, phone comes tomorrow,...

Bye Bye Orange, & my other three phones will be following suit before long,

I would LOVE a deal like that!!! I called Orange today and didn't get anything like that. They said minimum contract would be £45pcm. And the handset would still be £195!

Before you got that deal, had you been spending quite a lot with Orange? My total spend is ~£30pcm and that's why (they say) my costs would be so high.

Any suggestions how I could get a deal like yours. I've been with Orange since '95 (original 07973 #) so despite relatively low monthly spend, the total amount I have paid them is substantial.

For anyone getting offered 'less than adequate' deals when calling Orange to upgrade, rmemeber, you could get a better by taking out a new contract either through Orange or another company like mobiles.co.uk.

Only downsides are; for a time you may have two contracts on the go, and porting your number is a longer processas as you have to 'port out' of Orange and back in again.

I think you're right, Mike. But I'd love to know how "Terminal" got such a great deal! I've 3 weeks to go on my 18 month contract - perfect timing as long as I can get a decent deal...

If you're looking to upgrade on Orange you gotta do it the hard way.

You gotta go straight to retentions (choose the option - If you are thinking of leaving Orange press .....)

Tell them what you want and see what they offer you.

I rang them in October as I wanted an Omnia. I made the mistake of ringing the upgrade line.

I was told, sure you can have an Omnia, but i'll be 50 quid.

I hung up.

I rang back a week later and went through to the retention department this time.

Spoke to a knowledgable and helpful chap who told me that there were no Omnia's available

at that time as they'd all been sent back after failing quality control.

He offered me a HTC Diamond and although I'd looked at it before, I wanted something with

more memory, a lot more memory. But the deal he offered was pretty good, as I'd been an Orange

customer for a good few years. 500mins/500texts for 20 a month plus the handset for free.

I declined the offer as I didn't want the Diamond, however doin a bit of research I came upon

the Touch HD. Now I was interested in the deal with the HD instead of the Diamond. I waited

for it to appear on Orange and called them up. They'd saved the offer they made me and so

all I had to say was, gimme the HD on that deal please and so it was.................

I asked about internet access and I had that added to my account too no questions asked.

So current deal is HD (pay 50 for the upgrade but get it back as call credit)

500 mins / 500 texts / 250mb data for 22.50 a month.

WIN

Mooseman: That's a pretty awesome deal compared to my offerings. Were you out of contract when you negotiated that? Could you tell us what your approx monthly spend was?

Thanks

For anyone that is interested, if you work in local government or NHS (maybe some other employers), Orange will give you 10% off your tarriff if you show them a payslip.

I (kind of) work in local government so I'll give that a try. After the various posts I've made in this thread I finally got a deal that I'm happy with on Orange. (My monthly spend isn't great, so I played the "I've been with O for 13 years" card).

Following the advice given I called Orange retentions and after about 45 mins of to-ing and fro-ing I accepted the following deal.

Touch HD for £63.50, 200 mins, unlimited texts, "unlimited" internet for £26 a month. Plus Orange Care £5. This works out to be about the same as I'm currently spending for 100 min calls and 100 texts and pay-as-you-go internet. So, even though the deal isn't as good as some we've seen on here, it looks OK to me and is far better than most of the deals I've seen on the web.

My handset arrives tomorrow. Can't wait.

Happy Christmas

Chris

I've just upgraded through phones4u and this is the deal I negotiated: free HTC Touch HD, 750 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited data, free insurance, 3 months half price line rental and £100 cash for £40 a month (I was already on £40 a month).

I've been with Phones4u for years so they always seem to give me a good deal.

Well I’ve had yet another good experience with Orange. I took the contract with them in the middle of December and managed to negotiate free 256mb allowance (see post earlier in thread) but after calling them up to remove the internet lock I’ve got a whole month free!!

The lady noticed I hadn’t used my phone and said she’d credit me with £30 as I hadn’t used it at all  Was well chuffed!

Just hope they keep this up, am very happy to have been proved wrong about Orange!!

Just been dealing with Orange Customer Retention for renewing my contract and upgrading my phone...

At first they tried to get me to pay £200 for the phone, with a £160 credit to my account, with 400 minutes and 400 texts for £45 a month.

I said no to that, so after a bit more haggling, they offered me a Touch HD for £28.50, 1200 minutes, unlimited texts and data for £35 per month.

As soon as you're out of your contract (mine finished on 6th Dec 2008) and ask for your pac, you're on a winner.

Although... they were out of stock of the HD today, so should be back in the next few days.

Has anybody that was quoted a 500mb allowance actually got this showing on their statement as mine says 250mb. This is a new

Orange contract.

They did give me the free evening & weekend 'Try' allowance for 2 months as well which was good as I used 360mb total but 247mb was evening/weekend.

My 250mb allowance was reduced to 233mb for the first month as it was a few days short of a whole month when activated.

The best thing though, is that the unused data has been rolled over so I now got 438mb of allowance for next month

Presumably they only rollover 1 month? Does any body know for sure?

Just to set the record straight. In July Orange offered free on £35.00 and above price plans a 500mb FUP data bundle. It was put in to the archives at the end of July. This ment that it could still be added but the CSR had to know what to look for as it was hidden away from the current bundles. This offer was fully withdrawn at the beginning of December. From January this year Orange launched their new Panther price plans and replaced the 250mb limit with a 500mb one. If you were taking out a new contract or upgrading to a lower price plan you could have this bundle for a extra £5.00pm. If you wanted a data plan while you were in contract you should only be offered the 250mb data bundle. However I have posted on quite a few sites and the feedback has been that some CSR are happy to add this bundle on to your account anyway. Like many things it depends if the csr is happy to bend the rules. So some of you may be offered 250mb and some may be offered 500mb.

You can combine data bundles as well. I recently talk out a second contact with Orange. It was on the Dolphin 40 which came with unlimited evening and weekend browsing on top of this I managed to get the 500mb data bundle added and on top of that I also managed to add the 250mb data bundle as well. So there are options if you are a large data user.

I just renewed my contract and got dolphin 35 plus the 250mb "unlimited" [ha ha] anytime internet package - basically what I'm on now - discounted to £20 a month, with the Touch HD for £107 with a £50 credit on my next bill.

Sadly they wouldn't budge on throwing in the Orange Care insurance package, but I'm happy with what I've got :)
