Outgoing calls issue on unlocked G1

Hi

Maybe I'm being a total muppet but this is a new one to me. I have done a lot of SIM swapping in my time but have never had this before. On my recently acquired unlocked G1 I am using my Orange 3G SIM. I get a great 3G connection, can receive incoming calls, can send and receive SMS, update network settings, etc., yet cannot make calls. If I put my T-Mobile PAYG SIM in it works fine. If I put my Orange 3G SIM in anything else it works fine. Can anyone shed any light on this? BTW, before you ask, I've done a soft-reset, hard-reset and 'reset to factory defaults' from the Settings menu but nothing has made any difference.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Ben

Damn... I was hoping someone would have had the same issue. I'm not totally alone...

...but clearly not a common problem.

I'm thinking it must be SIM related, though I can't see a reason why. So, some shots in the dark that might trigger other thoughts...

- if my G1 weren't unlocked properly [which I don't think is the case because it was never actually locked anyway] would it allow any non-TMob activity at all?

- what is FDN - Fixed Dial Numbers? This is turned off on my device and I can't turn it on because it says I have no contacts on the SIM. I thought FDN was for forcing an international code or to use the 'hide outgoing number' prefix. Might this be related?

I have been happily using a G1 supplied on t-mobile USA and unlocked via code on Orange UK. I had an issue regarding getting an signal originally but that was resolved with little trouble. How was yours supplied unlocked? Is it the developer version? If not it will have been supplied locked and unlocked by someone.

Fixed dial numbers just lock your phone to only calling pre-set numbers from the sim to stop people who borrow your phone etc calling unknown / unauthorised numbers.

hey ben

Could it be an radio iot issue (e.g. related to HSUPA)? have you tried forcing 2G?

(FDN would be to restrict out-going call to just a fixed list of phone numbers)

cheers

I bought a G1 T-Mobile USA phone and have contract for two years with T-Mobile USA. I flew to Thailand, where I live the day after buying the G1 and had to pay $25 to a simunlock company because T-Mobile claimed that they couldn't get the SIM unlock code from HTC. So now I am using my G1 on the DTAC network in Thailand and it seems to be working well for phone calls and data. I have just a few bugs though. One is that when I try to transfer the photo images that I have stored on the memory card on the phone to my laptop, I can't get anything using Windows explorer on the E drive. The problem may be caused by my wife's HTC S710 phone using active sync and Windows Mobile 6. I have a new icon that shows when ever I plug the USB into the phone and can not access my G1. I have called HTC and they say they do not support this phone. So I looking anywhere for other G1 users that might be able to trade info to get this phone working the right way. Any ideas?

Hi,

not sure if you still have the problem or not. any way what i know is that according to t-mobile contracts, if you have been using with them longer than 3 months then you are entitled to get the official unlock code. and they should get for you. maybe that would solve your problem.

Also once you have officially unlocked it then you didn't breach any contracts and they should give you the support you need :(
