I have had an omnia now for 4 months... and I've seen my friends Iphone.. and my general opinion is that the SAMSUNG OMNIA is shite... its full of bugs... unsupported... no "iphone" type apps beong developed... ZERO coordination on rom updates... multiple countries, multiple roms, multiple bugs...

Why did samsung bother?

.. oh... wait a minute... they didnt.

the IPHONE is intuitive, and designed from the ground up to work, it has an excellent array of programs that can be downloaded and installed, the camera works... etc etc...

OMNIA... jeez... this thing needs soft reseting EVERY day... it hangs for no reason, there are NO releases from samsung to fix bugs, we have to search for custom roms, we have to be software engineers just to install the damn things...

OMNIA in the UK is a complete failure... iphone killer my arse... it has only taken extremem will power to stop me throwing the thing against the wall on some evenings... Why oh why is it so bad?

dear oh dear oh dear .....

the IPHONE is intuitive, and designed from the ground up to work, it has an excellent array of programs that can be downloaded and installed, the camera works... etc etc...

you mean the 2 mega pixel crappy camera which you cant send via mms ... and no video .. oh yeah thats miles better than a 5 mega pixel camera with slow mo video ...

OMNIA... jeez... this thing needs soft reseting EVERY day... it hangs for no reason, there are NO releases from samsung to fix bugs, we have to search for custom roms, we have to be software engineers just to install the damn things...

er ... download one of the many many awesome new roms and all you have to do is connect a cable, click an exe and reset ... not exactly rocket science!

OMNIA in the UK is a complete failure... iphone killer my arse... it has only taken extremem will power to stop me throwing the thing against the wall on some evenings... Why oh why is it so bad?

Windows Mobile is by definition NOT for people who want feature phones .... Its the same difference as buying a games console or a PC .. if you are willing to spend time and tweak it you will have an awesome box if not then you should stick with a console ... not as easy to do something stupid and break it.

if you want a phone that works and is pretty then get an iphone but the win mo o/s has allowed many many people on here to achieve quite impressive results.

the choice, as they say, is yours.

But me, I LOVE my omnia

the iphone, like most apple products, is designed for morons. it's designed for the common user who just wants to point and click (for further proof, look at their marketing)

the omnia is a fully functional pocket pc, in addition to being a phone. it takes tweaking to get it to be used to its full potential. it's target base is a more sophisticated, more savvy user who is not scared of computers, or phones, and knows their way around them.

given that you a) come on an omnia forum to bash it, and b.) complain that it needs to be turned off every day as one of our main complaints, i'm guessing you fall into the former group, and not the latter.

you trolls always make me laugh pretty hard. just go buy that iphone, you'll be a hipster in no time, and we'll have more time here for discussions that matter. enough said.

....oh wait, can't resist: did you notice like 99% of the people here don't have the problems you have? Ever considered you might be using it the wrong way? Softreset every day? wtf are you doing to it?

Ok, let me dicipher what you are trying to say:

- "its full of bugs" : Full is a very subjective term i.e. using ur omnia full-time as opposed to clicking around your friend's iphone for a few minutes.

- "unsupported": Have you EVER checked any ROM updates for omnia..seriously..?! They have release at least 2 updates in the past 3-4 months. What do you expect? an update every week? be realistic.

- "no iphone type apps": I'm sure people can get by without casino card counting softwares, or be forced into using that itunes. You want iphone type menu settings, check. you want a slide lock, check. You know how versatile the WM platform is compared to iphone... if not, I'd suggest you start using google.

"ZERO coordination on rom updates... multiple countries, multiple roms, multiple bugs...": Type Omnia and update in google for christ sakes! Does everyone need to be spoon fed?! How hard is it to follow the code of your country and download the appropriate rom for your phone. Samsung has even provided you with an update program out of the box!..........

"needs soft reseting EVERY day": Maybe you haven't bothered to at least try and update your firmware.

"there are NO releases from samsung to fix bugs": Once again shows your ignorance

"we have to search for custom roms, we have to be software engineers just to install the damn things": I'm nowhere near being a software engineer.....and with a science background...so how do I manage to do everything you can't do? Its something called following instructions integrated with some common sense.

"OMNIA in the UK is a complete failure... iphone killer my arse... it has only taken extremem will power to stop me throwing the thing against the wall on some evenings... Why oh why is it so bad?": The whole world does not revolve around UK. I suggest you throw that 'thing' against the wall and stop using it. Thats the only way OMNIA won't be downgraded by people like you using it.

A word of advice, I do suggest you give some thought before you put these post up in this forum. It does yourself no favours or help anyone else here. If you believe iphone is the way to go, by all means. But consider this, the mass that use the iphone have never bothered to do anything more than what has been provided out of the box. in fact, it has been made and designed as such. Using your omnia to its maximum potential is no rocket science.

I haven’t had issue 1 with my Omnia. Camera works??? Good luck with that crap 2mpix camera and NO video capture! As for apps, Windows Mobile has far more apps than iPhone because its been around longer. In fact, just about all the iPhone apps I've seen advertised I've been able to find for the Omnia (Facebook App, Auto Level, Music ID, etc).

iPhone REQUIRES you to run iTunes in order to sync music to it. Not the Omnia, set it up as a USB drive and copy to your hearts content.

Does the iPhone offer WiFi??? Didn't think so.

So, go be a follower instead of a leader and enjoy your iPhone and don't come into this forum to bash something that is clearly better in all areas (maybe except OS).

The only thing that the iphone has, that the Omnia doesn't have is the screen. We can talk smack about the iphone the whole day, but I think it's fair to admit that the Iphone's screen is a fine piece of hardware.

Me, I love my Omnia !!!

Although I had to laugh at a guy on the train station platform the other day telling his mates his iphone was broken and wouldnt work.

Was just that his fingers were so cold it didnt register on the screen ....

Lol! Almost everyday in the subway, people ask me if i have an iPhone (they mostly see it on tv...) and that they didn't know it was working with gloves! I just answer that the iphone doesn't even have a mouse and a Start menu... And I do recommend they buy an iPhone, keep Winmo for people who know. Just like somebody says in a upper post, either you lead or you follow. Guess where is WinMo...

To the Omnia basher:

1) go to an iphone forum to bash the Omnia

2) respect others: we don't say your hype phone is crap because the bluetooth only works with a headset and can't even communicate with other phones, not even saying a computer...

3) if your too stupid to make your way around winmo, just play with your kid phone and let the serious things to men.

Have fun with you Iphone, make the App store richer and let us cook, flash, install, tweak, modify, customize and hell yeah, SOFT and HARD RESET for God's Sake!

I own both..and iphone isn't all that bad with a jail break, but i don't use it at all. Why? Because you can't change the f***ing - non multi tasking - interface at all. I have to have in my possession, a gadget i can tweak and totally change the interface and appearance every two months...If i don't own a device like that, i have to buy a new one because i get completely sick of the last one when there is nothing new to discover. The more bugs there are in the beginning the more I am happy if stuff is upgradeable, changeable and repairable. That's why i stick to microsoft and pc/pocket pc in combination with good hardware (yes omnia has excelent hardware too)...Oh and also the price tags.

(I bet a lot of people here operate the same way and if you're not one of them, then stick to the iphone)

Functionality :

Omnia pwns iPhone

The worst thing is that the WM doesn't support multi-touch. But i think Microsoft is going to make WM 7 with multi-touch support!

I love my omnia too, but i agree with the OP in one respect: i wish there was decent intuitive mp3 player software with playlists, sorted by genre/artist/album etc as you get with the bloody iphone. And TBH i would love to be able to sync straight from Itunes....

Thats it tho, in every other respect the omnia is tweakable perfection.

This phone isnt for everyone, I have the US I910 model and I wish I could send it back too. Mainly for the Poor Reception (I average 0-2 bars at the most. Which if any body has a tweak that can resolve this that would be great) but apparently samasung/verizon US forgot they were making a phone 1st and a PC second.

On another note: post like this are extremely important, people need unbasis information when it comes to buying cell phones. They need the Good and the bad as much as it hurts. I myself wish I read this post 3 months ago. I probaly wouldnt be kicking myself in the a$$ hoping that this would work out.

I guess all Slovenes are like that. The same goes for me.

Plus winmo phones are for people that like to tweak and try things (unless you're my brother because he buys the same phone and then demands that i tweak it for him). B)

I have an omnia and have had for several months, and I really can appreciate what the thread starter is talking about.

Its not so much a comparison to the iphone, but more that there is a strong desire for this omnia to be slightly more......appealing.

Dont get me wrong, its awesome really when I think about what sort of things I use it for, I mean never would I have imagined to sit in bed watch a full featured film on my phone with superb divx quality (albeit with a third part ap coreplayer), or take such great photos and video just from my phone.

But most times I just wish Samsung had worked a bit harder on the interface. Because lets face it, the windows mobile interface SUCKS. It is not thumb friendly at all. You have to download third party aps just to get a thumb friendly interface, and dont tell me "well you can tweak the scrollbar to be wider" because thats just nuts, we shouldnt need a scrollbar!

And these third party applications are not that great, I mean spb mobile works but one press of a button and your back to the windows today screen, which is god awful. Something like manila as well is just from another phone, plus you have to sit and try and find somewhere to download it from and get it all working.

And no one can ignore the random crashes that happen from time to time. I can say that when I bought the omnia I didnt update the firmware so I had this bug that if the wifi or BT were on, the screen would go black and stay that way until you took the battery out. I updated the firmware last week and that bug is fixed, but now the phone will crash when disconnecting the usb cable (happens every time). Only reason I didnt update was because I couldnt be bothered to risk having a bricked phone and have to post it out and go without a phone etc, just an incredible hassle for something that I would have expected out of the box - a working phone.

I think people are generally right here that the iphone is for people who just want to get on with it, but I dont necessarily see why that is a bad thing. We should all want to get on with things. The iphone has terrible specs in comparison, but at least it has an official website where I can find aps that will work on the phone - I dont need to hunt around for windows mobile aps and then hope that they work on the omnia.

I dont see why Samsung doesnt improve its rom with a proper user interface. Instead it chooses to release an updated version of the omnia. I feel like Samsung just doesnt care. The omnia desperately needs a proper user interface where EVERYTHING is changed - I dont want to see the windows start menu ever again.

People who deny the above are simply in denial and are too saturated with love for the omnia to see that it has major flaws, flaws that should have prevented it from even being sold if Samsung had a decent pre-sale customer feedback program. Even if you forget the iphone and look at any nokia, n96 for example, you will see a decent user interface that is fast and smooth. The omnia, everytime I press the menu button it sort of stalls a bit before jerking the menu on screen. Sometimes I wonder where that 600mhz of power is going if it cant even display a menu smoothly...

The omnia shouldnt really be called a phone, its more of a small sized windows PDA that is able to make calls.

If you think the omnia already has a good user interface by downloading a wad or any other 3rd party interface, please do tell, as I am finding it extremely difficult to find any!

I love my Omnia and would never get an iphone.

My wife has an iphone. She likes it because the phone is pretty and neat out of the box and takes no effort. That's great for her. Her needs are limited. She doesn't need more than 8 GB of space. She doesn't need a video camera (she looks for me to take videos on my Omnia!). She doesn't use more than 1 application at a time.

I already know that for no cost I can tweak my Omnia interface to be virtually identical to the iphone. I simply choose not to because I don't like the iphone.

In every respect but one, I find the Omnia lays waste to the iphone. I even prefer Touch Player to Itunes. The Itunes syncing requirements are ridiculous. I much prefer just tossing files onto my phone.

And I have yet to find an application I need or want that is not available on the Omnia but is on the iphone. I have surfed the Apple Store and there is a heck of a lot of crap on that thing.

The only area lacking is multitouch, and this really only matters for a few apps like a piano application...which I only doodle around with anyways.

But every time I get my Outlook calendar and task list pushed to my phone, every time I edit a document in Excel or Word, every time I taker a video of my kids on my Omnia, and every time I see that I have every single tune I own and well over 30 hours of TV and video on my phone and am still nowhere near full, every time I take my phone on a long jet ride and switch out batteries mid flight, and eventually when I get my ENTIRE DVD library on multiple Micro SD cards that I can swap out as I please, then I just laugh at the poor iphone and its adherents.

And, for full disclose, I am a Mac guy who prefers Mac desktops and has one at home.

Devin
