Things to know about this ROM. I have implemented some changes which I have to for the ROM to be more stable and because of it been ported from a new device it made sense. Some of the changes are: * This ROM is a test ROM and is for more for advance users who dont mind flashing thier devices also flash at your own risk. * Remove old HTC Album due to the new mmanila is also link to it, unfortunately doesnt support facebook upload. * Remove Social network due to new HTC ALBUM not suporting it.. * Added New HTC Camera from Topaz due to its more advantage of better picture taking and also link with the new contact card, disadvantage no zoom available. * The old HTC Camera can be installed by installing the cab in the download folder. * Have tested the ROM for one whole day and all in all everything worked for me and I love it so far. * Just to remind everyone again you can enable landscape for more apps in the ROM by just checking 270 angle in FLIP IT. * With the new HTC Album rotation seems to change from the old one, but sure enough we will get this working for us soon. Guest squirreleater Posted March 28, 2009 Report Share Posted March 28, 2009 Now, I'm not going to ask this on XDA as I'll get flamed for all eternity for actually being a newbie..... It feels like a different language , and not having a WM knowledgeable mate to ask I'm spending lots of time trawling wikis trying to educate myself. But here I feel I might get away with asking dumb questions, so be kind. What do I need to get/install to successfully run this?( simple short words please, and just banging up a load of initials doesn't really help, if you don't know what something is typically shortened to, it makes it all seem like double dutch) If I flash my phone, do I loose all my current settings? IE. my email settings? The reason for these questions- 1: This is my first WM phone and it's taken some time to get it 'just right'. 2: I don't want a £500 brick! 3: I feel I'm missing out not flashing it and would like to make the jump but.....(see 1 + 2 ) I know you're probably thinking If I don't know I shouldn't flash it, but we all have to learn. I looked into it for my Kaiser a couple of weeks ago (before I got my HD) and spent more time reading how to do it and getting confused than actually flashing it. There are programs to make backup of contacts, emails, messages, etc. and when you boot the phone after flashing it sets all the data/internet connections up automatically. If you want to try it though you need a Hard SPL which modifies the boot loader to accept custom ROMs. Usually a case of running a program on the computer and it does the rest. You have to flash a hacked SPL to the phone to allow custom ROMs to be installed. The Hard means it remains on the phone after a hard reset. Everything on the phone (not SD card) will be erased when flashing a new ROM so backups are required. When the phone first boots it runs a configuration program for setting up WAP/MMS, etc for each operator. Email settings you setup will be lost though. Download and install/run duttys ( or other) rom. The phone will find sms/mms settings and backup should save the email setting? One thing, My phone is on orange- it has the logo on it but i think i have one with the standard rom- Never found anything Orange related on the phone. Will it find the settings ok given that it appears to have the HTC vanilla rom currently? Thanks for answering with a simple to understand reply and not flaming me. I flashed mine for the first time last week with Dutty's 2.3 B) I have now just installed Dutty's 2.5 Extreme on my Touch HD. After you have installed hardspl, you can then run the rom file and it will start the install. Most of it is automated, just follow the onscreen instructions. When the install has finished the phone will restart and go straight to the screen calibration where you click the centre and 4 corners of the screen. It is best at this point to perform a hard reset, this is recommended for whenever you flash a new rom. To do the hard reset switch the phone off and then hold both the volume up and down buttons together and briefly press the power on button. If done correctly it will bring up a screen up telling you to press volume up to reset the phone. Once you have done the hard reset and rebooted the phone, you do the screen calibration etc. then when the Today screen appears if you wait a few seconds you should be presented with a choice of operators, just choose Orange and the phone will set itself up with all the necessary MMS WAP settings etc. I only got two operator choices when installing the Dutty rom, one was Orange and I can't remember the name of the other? Hard SPL was easy, just follow the instuctions-only one or two- job done. Flashing the phone wasn't so simple, I thought I'd bricked it when it didn't get past a white screen on startup, so I soft reset it and it managed to boot up ok. Tried using my sprite backup but that failed fairly miserably, only porting email and sms over- no contacts! Plus the backup seemed to screw up the rom conflicting with it, so eventually I twigged what was going on and managed to get it up and running ok, Many hard and soft resets later I had it sorted, synced the phone with the pc and my contact came over, missed a few but otherwise ok. Today the phone has been ok. My conclusions for the newbies like me wondering whether to do this: Flashing is easy, nothing to worry about. But make sure you have backed everything up with a few different programs etc, just incase one doesn't work. Is it worth it? Well yes, but it isn't an amazing difference- there are a few decent things on the rom (Duttys) over the standard and a few days of use will tell me if it really is an improvement. It does seem faster and has some nice touches. I would think I will flash a few other roms to try them, but only when I have some more backups ready! Stu. Going to sound like a twonk, but whats Telstra? I'm currently running Miri 6.5 V11 and it's great, very smooth and bug free, uses wm6.5 that I personally like over 6.1 , plus the titanium screen is getting modifed a lot at the moment, so lots of scope to change the appearence of the phone to suit. Duttys rom is now very good ( V3.3, V3.4 in a day or two), stable and has a few nice features. Both are at XDA. Hey mate, hope you are ok, Newbie here, thinking about flashing it and not really worried that I will brick it, but.... do you know how eazy is it to get back to my phone's original set-up (i.e factory settings)? Since the last post I am now using a company issued blackberry for work still with with Telstra but I have switched my HD to a prepaid account with Vodaphone for private use.
