Website repository for Omnia Roms

I wanted to mention that I have purchased OmniaRom.com and going to build the site in the next few days.

I am hoping this site will be dedicated to Omnia roms and be a central location for roms to be uploaded/downloaded.

A one stop shop for cooked and official roms. My idea is to allow users the ability to share their roms and also make it easy to find a rom that suit your needs. This site will also give cookers the ability to upload their own roms and make changes as need be, one place to find updated roms without digging through forums.

Server info:

150GB of storage space

1500GB monthly bandwidth

Linux Based

I am open to any ideas to how roms should be listed and the look of the site.

Hope this site can be useful

very nice idea , please report as soon as you finish :excl:

working at it now,

standard e-mail registration - finished 100%

user uploads - finished 100& {was able to upload a 70MB file in 4 min} (user must be approved for uploads)(sorry but would like to keep junk to a min)

logo - in progress 0%

full layout - in progress 60%

site will be blocked until layout is finished (soon)

I would like to request that you make a forum for each of the Omnia types. Right now on this site both i900 and i910 are in the same forum and it can be hard to find what your looking for.

I am open to any ideas to how roms should be listed and the look of the site.

Hi, I'm no web-developer so, unfortunately I can't comment on that. But about listing;

1) I would suggest against hosting the ROMs yourself. But you should require approval for links.

2) There must be a standard submission format, for ex. a ROM should have at least 2 mirrors (mediafire and rapidshare -like), at least 4 images, showing home screen, application menu, about screen (versions) and memory (just my examples), should have a description which include which device it is for, which windows version and build, size, free ram, absent and added applications and description/extras... Also each submission must be commentable (like a blog maybe?).

3) I would rather not let ROMs etc. to be attached in the forum pages. Some developers are experienced and reserve the first 2-3 pages and update the status there. But even that way, you might need to read hundreds of pages, just to find an answer to a simple question...

4) For the ROMs, there must be a tool to filter selections. Like; "Show me ROMs for i900, based on WM6.5, build above 21100 and have at least 120MB Free Memory, running Manila2D" etc :excl:

5) The forum part must at least consist of two main parts, maybe three: Under Development, Mature Solutions and Announcements or News (maybe?)... Any topic with a question that is correctly handled and answered (solved) must be moved from Development to Mature... That way, it would be better for newbies and ppl. just searching for quick answers and new stuff. People that want to discuss things would not interfere with others.

Just my two cents...

Anyway you implement it, it's a nice thought. It'll be useful, I'm sure, good job!

Roms will be hosted on another page, not part of the forums.

what is wrong with hosting the roms?

if the main page kept a comparison of roms that would be awesome.

like for the i1910 it could feature the 3 out there and list what programs are gone, added, mods, and free space.

things like that would be invaluable.

basic layout sounds like a good idea.

forum layout would have to be kept simple for people looking for info .. something like

i900..

cookers corner (discussion between chefs and prospective chefs regarding info on building roms, inclusions into new roms)

Standard roms

md2 roms

6.5 roms

facelift roms (using things like WAD or SPB integrated into the rom itself)

works in progress ( for people working on things not quite ready for release yet ,looking for input on what people might want before release)

i910..

cookers corner (discussion between chefs and prospective chefs regarding info on building roms, inclusions into new roms)

Standard roms

md2 roms

6.5 roms

facelift roms (using things like WAD or SPB integrated into the rom itself)

works in progress ( for people working on things not quite ready for release yet ,looking for input on what people might want before release)

then maybe one or 2 more main entries

one for themes

and another for whatever else ya have in mind

then the odd this or that for news, new tested apps across the board

a link to a cab repository that the links dont die in 2 days

also helpful would be pics in the cab repository showing the addition each extra cab gives

fir instance i downloaded one of the roms the other day that i kinda liked the alarm system on as i kinda hate the standard omnia one, i dont know what program controlled the alarm i did like since i changed the rom over to try one of the others. so looking for a cab of something i am not sure what its called is kinda like pissin in the wind some days. a central rom repo with pics would have saved me 3 days of looking so far.

i think the rom repo itself is a great idea, as long as each rom has screenshots showing the roms .

to often i go forum hopping here looking for something new to toy with and while some roms do sound great in print, some people still do not include pics to show the final product. those are roms i wont install because i dont want to waste the time installing something i might not like the look of when its done.

there is some awesome work in these forums but damn its hard to weed out and find things ya want some days.

heres to hoping you find the key to a great site bud.

good luck and cya there

Hey lambi1982, it's a very good idea and I want to thank you for this, I'll be definitely a user of your site. Just 2 questions:

- what do the '"usual suspects" (Shokka9, MobileTurk Team, sector, qbus, khuanchai, koko5800, t2008, PaSSoa...) think about it, I mean do they agree with the idea and will be active there?

- will your site be 100% free?

question #1 : Usual suspects- that is why I am posting here to find out if it is a welcomed idea, any that oppose please speak up.

I want this site to be great and safe place for roms and free from ads and silly count down timers. When I want a rom or cab for my phone I dont want to wait 43 seconds to get it... I want it now :excl:

Question #2 : 100% FREE - Yes, this site is paid for by me and I will not have charges for other peoples work. Donations to the cookers are welcome and highly recomended (if they have donation options) I ask for no fees for using the site. If this goes as well as I plan, that will be enough for me.(maybe later If a bigger and faster server is needed I myself will welcome donations :excl: ) or just click buy me a beer on Omniarom.com forums

Question #3 : MY JUNK - YES, My junk is HUGE

hahahaha, sorry had to do that :excl:

u will need some mods for the better organization of the forum etc.

implement diff sections for roms, themes, programs, games, utilities, QA, general, sales, porn etc etc. :excl:

i hope rest of haxors cookers will also reply.

If your willing to have i910 ROMs on your site then I will put mine there.

:excl: I own a i910 so for sure it will be there. Thank you

blazingwolf, you and other cookers will have direct access to file uploads and file organization (updates to their own roms if need be)

I myself will do as much as possible (being that it is my site) but am hoping that with the help of the cookers and selected users, I will have a hand in uploads of roms and other files.

I will PM cookers when I am ready and see who is in or out. I have already started D/L many of the roms floating around but am hoping to get fresh uploads from the sources to ensure clean and proper roms for the users.

Thank you all and I will keep things posted.

Sector wrote " i will join ur site but i wont abandon modaco "

this is not my intention, I love modaco :excl: and I too will never abandon it. Omniarom.com will just be a tool for Omnia owners :excl:

Roms will be hosted on another page, not part of the forums.

what is wrong with hosting the roms?

Well, hosting the ROM files (not quite small files) would cause too much bandwidth use and this may become a problem in a while... But the main thing is, they would be scattered through messages, if you let ROMs inside messages (in the forum) as attachments.

For example, the first version might be on first page, first message... But the next or next might be on 121th page... At least this is a possibility and I've met things like this (not here and not about ROMs, but hey, that's software we're talking in general).

That was the reason behind my logic.

Instead, you could let links (direct links) inside the forum posts, but anyone who wants direct access can use the hosting solution's search/filter to get a specific ROM or version... (Well, it was how I would imagine it, at least)

i would think as a general rule on a new forum you would want something like this.

a chef gets his own thread and 1 sub thread for each rom he releases.

the main thread is his rom only as well as screen shots and descriptions and changes made from the original.

this forum should be locked so only admins/ mods and the chef can post in it.

the chef simply posts the newest revision of each rom as the last post on the thread.

this will stop the clutter of looking through 50 pages of a forum thread to find the newest revision.

all anyone has to do to see the newest version available is go to the last post of that thread.

the 1 sub thread could be his questions thread about that rom alone and anyone should be able to post there.

that would make your forum tree look something like this

i900..

Cookers Corner(discussion between chefs and prospective chefs regarding info on building roms, inclusions into new roms)

General help

Cab Repository(in the cab repo the links need to stay live and no cabs posted without a screenshot of the cab in action so people know what they are trying)

i would also suggest standardising the thread naming for the rom releases. say if I were going to release a rom on may 20th . the thread title should look something like this

C013RA01/M2D/6.1 RELEASE DATE MAY 20, 09

then say 3 weeks later i release a new version, same rom but just updated and tweaked a bit more

then i go back to my original first post, edit, change thread title to read something like this

C013RA02/M2D/6.1 REVISION DATE JUNE 12, 09

so when people are browsing the forums it makes it easy for them to know whats here

if you wanted to find the newest md2 rom for the i900 with winmo 6.1 it would just be a matter of

Home/i900/winmo 6,1/M2d roms/then just browse the post headers until you find the one your looking for.

i think you would need to have standard rules for chefs as well

no roms released without screenshots (the more the better)

along with a full description of what was changed or removed in its building.

ok i am babbling on long enough here and need to get ready for work.

cya in a while
