But nerds like to tinker, eh? I have read a few forum posts here and there for Wind users, and apparently this latest update improves battery life, and fixes the random mouse mayhem when the netbook wakes from sleep. I've spotted a new preference pane for the trackpad which seems to give you a little more control and a new icon for the energy saver preference. So all in all, a pretty good update! Prerequisites Combo Update: http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_..._7_Combo_Update CyberGreg's driver pack: http://forums.msiwind.net/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=11311 (Supposedly for retail installs only, but seems to work fine on my Kalyway install. MSIOSX86 users will need to look elsewhere) Paul's Wind utility pack: http://content.modaco.net/paulswinddriverutilitypack.zip (Mainly for the AboutThisMac.pkg, but you never know when you might need it next) Procedure 1) Go to System/Library/Extensions and remove RealtekR1000.kext. This is reported to cause a kernel panic on boot after update - Apparently the latest update doesn't need it anyway. 2) Install Combo Update. DO NOT RESTART 3) Install CyberGreg's driver pack. Restart once prompted 4) Reinstall AboutThisMac.pkg from Paul's utility pack (If you care about whether or not the proper information is displayed in the About This Mac dialogue??). 5) Install Safari 4... or whatever else you can do with 10.5.7! If you did go from 10.5.6 do you have a good link for the upgrade using the Paul/Kalyway method? - I had a kernel panic after my 10.5.7 trial (using a different method than yours) and now am stuck trying to go from 10.5.5 to .6. thanks for any help dtizzle Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest E=mc² Posted May 18, 2009 Report Share Posted May 18, 2009 I went straight from 10.5.6 using the Paul/Kalyway methods to get that far. I've actually got used to installing from 10.5.2 through 10.5.6 simply because I'm constantly tinkering with things!! If you've followed the instructions to get to 10.5.6 on this message board, then you should have your netbook set up the exact same way mine was before 10.5.7. Guest janna2 Posted July 31, 2009 Report Share Posted July 31, 2009 Hi, i followed the instructions posted from Paul to install Mac os x on msi wind with kalyway 10.5.2 http://netbooks.modaco.com/content/msi/270...nd-advent-4211/ then i upgraded to 10.5.6 with the instructions from johnwin : http://netbooks.modaco.com/content/msi/285...escribe-method/ and last i upgraded to 10.5.7 with these instructions : http://netbooks.modaco.com/content/msi/288128/10-5-7-update/ all works well - no kernel panic or anything if you follow the instructions directly - the only problem i had was i could not download the wind driver pack 6.8 for kalyway / retail as code.google.com came up with some permission problems, so i downloaded the driver pack from here : http://www.ministerofmac.com/downloads/ my browswer had some problems as it's not zipped, so i used "wget -r http://www.ministerofmac.com/downloads/Win...v6.8.mpkg" hth this comment helps anyone who likes to give it a try .... cheers, janna ps : anyone some recommondations on a nice little 13" laptop which is mac os x compatible ? i'm so far investigating dell 1525 and dell 13" ( only in US available ) with the intel x3100 )... but maybe i should post this somewhere else .... Basically before installing the 10.5.7 update I did these bits:- Before launching update, go into terminal (utilities -> terminal) Type in “sudo –s” Next type “while sleep 1; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done” Launch update, as usual update but don’t restart Install CBs driver pack Back in terminal press “CTRL + C” to end script Then restart. This allowed me to go from 10.5.4 straight to 10.5.7 I had tried various combinations of instructions and generally tatted about but had an acronis image of a working drive to jump back to when I messed up. I have heard tell that the same method can be used to go straight to 10.5.8 I'm hanging on till Snow Leopard is available and bods smarter than me have it working on the wind/4211 et al.
