Hi fellas,

I was browsing through XDA and found this nice app taken from new HTC Topaz which works exactly like WiFiRouter but it is free. Thanks to the original author Tom_Codon! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...499#post4170499

Well this was for VGA devices so i managed to port it for our resolution.

Please try it out and let me know how it works for you. It might need some adjustments or similar.

Some info: Share Your Internet Connection As A Wifi HotSpot.

Special thank to Alberto for helping on this!

Steps required:

1. Install Topaz CommManager: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=attach...st&id=35306

2. Install the attached cab: CM_Wifi_Internet_Sharing_WQVGA__ported_by_Sector_.cab

NOTES thanks to 07aspenx:

For those people that can connect locally but not access the internet, check the following:

1. Go into WI-FI settings and click XDA-Wifi-Sharing

2. Make sure that "Connects to:" is set to The Internet

3. Click on the Network Adapters tab and also make sure that SyChip Jaguar WLAN GSPI Card is set to connect using The Internet.

4. Then click Edit on SyChip Jaguar WLAN GSPI Card and you want to make sure that you select Use server-assigned IP address is ticked instead of Use specific IP address.

5. Click OK and run Comm Manager followed by CM Wifi Internet Sharing. If done right, the IP assigned to your laptop/PC should begin with a 192.x.x.x and not 169.x.x.x.

That looks interesting for sure... Something for when my internet goes down but doesn't happen often though)...

Well it's probably a better solution in case you don't have your USB cable close, cz the internet share by BT is pretty slow.

No, it does not. Did it even work for you? I doubt it.

Compared to WMWiFiRouter, this program......

1) Does not automatically turn on WiFi.

2) Does not create an Ad-Hoc connection.

3) Does not work.

Thank you for wasting 10 minutes of my day.

;)

Why is it so hard for people to realize that most of the community here do stuff for the rest of us for free. And that being a$$h013s to them is not the best way to encourage them to keep trying and doing an awesome job in porting and making apps work on our phone. If you do not like something or if you think that it is a waste of time then do not use it.

I can't use it, and neither can you, nor anyone else. It doesn't work.

If my first post seemed snide, it's because the OP made it sound like he posted a working alternative to WMWiFiRouter. It doesn't work, and therefore isn't an alternative to anything.

Why would you post a program that doesn't work without explicitly saying it DOESN'T WORK?

Please try it out and let me know how it works for you. It might need some adjustments or similar.

Nowhere in his original post does it say anything like "I can't get this to work, but maybe someone else can".

It sounds like he was just trolling in hopes someone else would figure out how to get it working for him.

+1 to that, that is definitely beyond rude. It's one thing to say hey this isn't working or I found this bug, but damn you don't have to be rude. Sector, and everyone that contributes here does so on their time and for free so just be grateful to have people here working for the greater good of our phones so please be respectful.

Don't be an ass. Sector has done so much for this community that I can't even begin to list it all. What have you done?

I, for one, am more than willing to test something out for him and report back in a civilized manner on the results. Apparently that's out of your ability.

That's cool, next time I come across a useful app that I know doesn't work, I will just post it here and say "Hey, look at this cool app everyone. Why don't you all try it out and let me know how you like. It might need some fine tuning and adjustments".

Point being, the OP was intentionally deceiving. He could have just said the app doesn't work. Now people have had their feelings hurt and they're getting all defensive and uptight.

So... because we're grown up enough not to have to resort to being an ass while hiding behind internet anonymity, we have our "feelings hurt"?

Interesting theory you have there. I especially enjoy the part when you accuse someone who has helped us out countless times as being "intentionally deceiving"... 'cuz we all know what a dirty scoundrel sector is! :D

WOW, guess you guys just don't get it.

Have fun continuing to post useless stuff under the guise of working apps then. Whatever turns you on I guess.

Actually the app works, from the comments in xda forum. If you spared some more time to read instead of wasting 10 min of your time and 1 min from my time replying to you.

From XDA:

Temp Placeholder Q & A

Q: In running the app there's a possible resizing issue since you can't flick or otherwise use the DPad to go down. Regardless, you can still connect but my PC and another phone did not find the network that was supposed to be available when shared.

A: Don't Flick scroll Just press hold ad the heig of hwere your Provider connecction is mentioned and scroll a little bit up to get the rest of the menu.

A: If your using another phone to connect, you can find the Connection in the regular Wifi connection screen under "Computer to Computer" Connections.

Q: Do we need to turn on the wifi in the device where the program is running?

A: The app starts the Wifi by itself.

Q: My PC or Laptop is not seeing the SSID.

A: For the people having trouble seeing the network, make sure your pc displays adhoc connections and not just access points.

Q: I have no menubuttons on a HTC TP2 (german stock ROM). Any ideas?.

A: This app has a 0409.mui so it either needs that Mui translated to 0407 or a translated version, for now it's just English.

Wait! Don't listen to sector! He's intentionally trying to deceive us again! He's no good! He can't be trusted! Run for your lives! Hide your women!

;)

p.s. Thanks sector. I'll give it a shot after I get home tonight and see if I can get it up and running.

Say waaaahhh? Umm, this app DOES NOT turn the WiFi on, let alone all the other stuff it's supposed to do.

Did you even try using this before you posted it?

I think other forum users should post some working results and make me eat crow; I haven't had lunch yet anyway.

Sector is a GOD among men on these boards. what is wrong with this guy? h8isgr8, your blasphemy offends many here.

Anyhow, onto the program. I am testing it out and will report later. It's awesome how quick you were able to create a WQVGA version btw. Then again I don't know how long it takes, but thanks nonetheless.

How about you just find somewhere else to hang out... You're not welcome here with an attitude like that.

I read the same OP you did, but didn't draw the same inferences you have -- not by a long shot.

Please just go away and stop stirring things up here.

I left a post over at XDA, but I can't get my SSID to show up. I have a feeling that I am doing something wrong. Perhaps I'm just too newbish to figure out how to view the ad hoc network on my computer. I have a mac and xp. Any ideas?
