13/08 1.0 - MoDaCo Hero Rosie Remover

Nice and simple this... by popular request... a Rosie remover for Hero! It simply deletes all the Rosie and widget files.

Yes, you can achieve exactly the same thing via the command prompt, this just makes it a bit easier for newbies... :)

This update is designed to be applied on top of a standard build, using the recovery image linked below. DO A NANDROID BACKUP FIRST! ;)

Install Process

Instructions! ;)

1. Download this zip file and extract it to a directory (this will work on a PC OR a Mac!). Open a command prompt at this directory.

2. Ensure you have a SD card in your device! Ensure 'USB Debugging' is enabled in 'Settings - Application - Development' on your device and plug it in. If you are prompted for USB drivers on your PC, you can grab them here.

PC

3. Either mount the SD card on your PC and copy the 'update-hero-signed.zip' to it as 'update.zip', or type 'adb push update-hero-signed.zip /sdcard/update.zip'.

4. Type 'adb shell reboot bootloader' to enter the bootloader.

5. Type 'fastboot boot cm-hero-recovery.img' - the device will now boot into the recovery image.

6. Select the option to 'apply update.zip from SD card'. Let it complete.

Mac

3. Either mount the SD card on your Mac and copy the 'update-hero-signed.zip' to it as 'update.zip', or type './adb push update-hero-signed.zip /sdcard/update.zip'.

4. Type './adb shell reboot bootloader' to enter the bootloader.

5. Type './fastboot boot cm-hero-recovery.img' - the device will now boot into the recovery image.

6. Select the option to 'apply update.zip from SD card'. Let it complete.

7. Select 'reboot' and you're all done! <_<

Enjoy!

You can go into Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications, select 'TouchFlo' and then select 'Clear Defaults'. When you then press the home key, it will ask you whether you want to use Rosie or the standard 'Home'.

just another question, i want to add 'MoDaCo Hero Patch' .But can i install that after i have removed Rosie ?

or should i first install 'MoDaCo Hero Patch then remove Rosie ?

Rosie is the HTC Sense launcher, i.e. the HTC homescreen program.

I never really needed to use 7 homescreens, and I've heard that it takes up a lot of system resources compared to other launchers. I now use Launcher Pro, it is so much smoother and more customisable.

Now that I use another launcher, I need to get rid of Rosie so that it stops opening up automatically in the background, and taking up 15-20mg of memory

The aim is to free up system resources by removing it for good.

NOTE: by removing Rosie, you still keep the phone and messaging system, as well as other HTC programs, and the notification bar etc... but you won't be able to use HTC widgets in your new homescreen/ launcher

What is rosie? What are the implications of removing it?

Would a couple of screenshots help?

Rosie is the HTC Sense UI, so this Patch will remove Sense UI components from your device.

I guess the file needs to be signed, but I have no idea how to do that, or if it's only Paul that can do it

There is a guide based on this package, which shows you how to do it manually, I will link to it later when I'm at home, and after I've tried to flash this file first

Hi there, I know this topic is out of date but seeing as the Hero has just got 2.1 I don't think this post is correct any more :s

I've been running Modaco custom rom 3.2 for months (awesome job paul :D) and thought I'd try the r5, which is just as solid. The thing is I've played with a stock 2.1 ui and, to be honest, I actually prefer it over rosie. Your zip file seems to apply to only the 1.5 version though, I've tried it and the phone won't boot so I have to roll back to a nandroid backup. I was just wondering if someone could tell me the correct files to delete to remove rosie via adb shell for 2.1?

Thanks in advance :)

I don't seem to have TouchFlo listed under Applications (running MCR4 r5). I did 'Clear Defaults' for HTC Sense and force closed it. But it still launches Rosie when I pressed Home. Am I doing something wrong?

hmmm, the problem is I don't like the stock look (white notification bar, the rounded icon in the notification bar, the dialer etc..) I like everything HTC except Sense. So removing just sense is perfect for me :D

so, James_Lin, Alex, here is the guide I was talking about, it's over on XDA;

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585835

it's from the CDMA forum, but that shouldn't matter

i'm still at work :-(((, so it will be a lot later before i get to try it out. I will be removing (or renaming for backup purposes) the files with Root Explorer instead of ADB btw

Try installing another launcher like ADW or Launcher Pro first, then you might be able to choose one of them? Sorry that doesn't help if you specifically want Android Home, but it might shed some light on the issue if a third party launcher doesn't work either

This is the same as the modaco update.zip I think, which is based on android 1.5, not android 2.1. I've tried this and it basically just causes android to fail to boot, so be careful! What I wanted to know was if anyone knew how to remove rosie from 2.1. Presumably if there's a walkthrough for the legend, the desire or similar it would work the same way on the hero, bar maybe a few files that aren't included on the hero rom.

Methinks I'll do some googling, if I come up with anything I'll post back :D
