Use PC Internet connection rather than phones

On my old HTC TytnII when I plugged my phone in to my PC I could go on the internet using the PC connection. Using the HERO everytime I connect (using HTCSync) it's still downloading using the phone's connection. Obviously I would like to use wireless/pc connection so I dont have to use up my allocated data allowance from Orange every opportunity that I can.

Does anyone know how to do this?

just setup a wireless access point on the phone.. it'll use that instead of the hspda/3g connection

Is this the same as using a standard wireless connection or are you saying create a new access point and use the wired (usb) connection?

That sort of defeats the question :) I was hoping you can do this via usb and the pc's internet connection in the case if there isn't a wireless connection available or if it's a weak signal?

but you said you'd like to use the pc connection / wireless ?

spend a tenner on a USB wireless controller for the PC and use that. Am kinda glad that it doesn't do stuff like that.. it's something that i guess most people won't use and would just slow the device down,

I would like to use wireless/pc connection... so when a wireless connection is available I will use it. When there isn't and I'm working on a PC that my phone is plugged in I'd like it to use the connection from the PC.

It's not about spending a tenner. It's not for home use. This is from a laptop with mobile internet(usb dongle) or from anywhere there isn't a wireless connection.

How would it slow the phone down? It's just another connection to the outside world, no more than a wireless connection. And you'd be surprised how many people would use it if its possible. Why use up mobile data when you don't have to?

Sitting at work, I don't have to turn off all my auto updates or online usage, I'm not going to be using it at work so don't see the point in spending my allowance on the pointless updates im not using at the time. But with a pc connection I can d/l apps, updates, software, web pages and it can stay up to date and when I leave its all there updated/stored and ready for the journey home.

I think you guess wrong. This is something most Windows Mobile user do since years, and would probably be happy to be able to do with android too. When you're at work, for example, and your android device stands on its docking cradle, that would let you share the full internet access of your company, without using 3G connection. I don't see how it could slow the device down ...

Would like to see this as well in Android, as coming from WinMo world.

fair point, i don't work in an office - and just kinda assumed that when you are, you'd be working !

re slowing the device down.. it's another service running.. using resources - slowing it down!

Working doesn't mean you don't want your email and agenda to by synchronized.

About the "slowing down" point ... you're right. Unuseful things like wifi, bluetooth, should be removed too. You know, all those awful unuseful thing you can't even disable, and enable when you need them ... In fact, everything should be removed.

I personnally never user bluetooth, so please, I'd like bluetooth features to be removed, 'cause "it slows down" my phone.

Hum, in fact, why don't you consider buying something called a phone, instead of a smartphone ?
