Can't add/activate a new APN in 2.3

I've been fiddling with 2.3 and have found it excellent so far. The problem I can't seem to get over is the sending of MMS though. I'm with Vodafone and I've tried going into the wireless settings and putting in my APN info, which is correct and has worked perfectly up until now but it won't let me activate and use the new APN. No little 'tick' button appears next to it, or any others if I create them. Consequently when I try and send an MMS the message just sits in the undelivered box and constantly re-sends and fails.

Has anyone had any similar issues? Anyone got any advice?

(I've tried doing a format and re-install, with no luck.)

Cheers

EDIT

It's not just MMS, I've lost 3G and mobile 'net altogether.

EDIT

Have reverted back to the generic and the problem is gone, so it is 2.3 custom ROM related.

When you edit the APN, you have to rename the last setting (APN Type (APN name) - or something similar, my hero is not in english) to "default", and save the config (when you are in the apn edition menu, tap the "menu" button and save). Then the tick button appears again and you can use this apn setting.

I had the same problem, and after this internet works but I still can't send or recive mms

Thanks for the replies.

@usoska - you don't have to rename the APN type but it's not really an issue because it's a fault with the software, you can't actually save an APN and select it. Having reverted back to generic, all the options are back and 3G/MMS is working fine. Cheers for the input though mate.

I have a similar problem in that I can't use 3G. When I go to the APN menu item, I just get a black screen with "APNs" at the top, like it's waiting to load.

Any ideas?

That's the exact problem I had mshaw03, I wiped and installed the latest generic and all is well again.

Doh. I've fixed mine by pressing the menu button on the APNs screen and restoring default APNs. Although I went back to 2.2 first. Hopefully it'll be the same once I update back to 2.3! :)

I tried restoring default APN's and it just stayed blank. Now I've got problems with the generic force-closing on various screens. More annoyances.

The apn's weren't included in 2.3

I had exactly the same problem, but on another thread http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...inese-enhanced/ some-one has copied the T-mobile APN settings.

I entered these manually and all is now working as it should.

344 apps and counting!

I had the same problem after installing the 2.3 rom AFTER a wipe.

Restored original T-Mobile G2 Touch, rooted and queried APN settings DB for values

/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db ->

[/codebox]

... as you can see, quite a few entries added for t-mobile roaming. The APN currently in use is set in file...

/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/shared_prefs/preferred-apn.xml

Now I've got this info, I'm going to try installing 2.3 after a wipe again and see if I can't fix the APN issue. I've copied off the DB and .xml files, so if all else fails, will try copying them back and see what happens...
