To anyone installing it, would be keen to know if it works ok (particularly receiving text messages) and if it is worth me switching from the generic HTC Hero ROM I stuck on mine last night...

Yep, works for me. Both ways (if you'll forgive the expression!)

Works well here.

Received balance and allowance text messages from the "Sim Toolkit" application. The app never used to work for me in the old Rom, so it's nice to see it working now! [All it does is send AL/BA to 150...]

As for whether it's worth switching - I can't say. I've been debating whether to install Modaco on mine, and truth beknownst had they have not released the ROM I would have done what you've done.

I'm guessing we've all got the same "speed increases" now. It's just a case of whether you're bothered about the Warranty I think.

If you don't get a horrible T-Mobile splashscreen then I'd stick with yours, lol :)

The AL/BA messages you get - is that on PAYG?

Tbh, I know that with the Modaco ROM installed, it will not affect the warrenty in anyway, but I just dont want to loose out on anything new that may be on the t-mob one.

Think i will stick with pauls rom (seeing as he has better communications :))

Cheers for the info!

Downloaded ROM from T-Mobile anyway just so if the hardware ever breaks or I have any issue with it (if I can, assuming it is not a massive hardware fault) will just swap it back to theirs unrooted. (Though from what I gathered they will still be able to tell so past point of no return really!).

I used to get: 1st screen TMobile G2 Touch (for aaaages), HTC logo, then another T-Mobile generic splash.

Now get: Same G2 Touch screen (but shorter), quick Hero logo, quick HTC logo.

Boots twice as fast easy.

To be honest, got my texts back so far (*crosses fingers + touches wood!*), and am more than happy with speed improvements and all the other little touches that now work better so cannot really be bothered changing. Am hoping this also means now that any future updates (Donut etc, which will have to go through HTC again as they will have to be compatible with Sense UI etc) can be stuck on mine straight from HTC without the faff of waiting on T-Mobile!

And to finish, getting away from the slightly more mundane ins-and-outs (and as a fellow, presumably slightly grudging and annoyed of late, T-Mobiler)... HOW AWESOME ARE OUR PHONES NOW!!!!???? :D

Phone after update is fine, but..

I just tried to restore previous state: recovery boot, root etc.. and i think i just found what they spend these days for. None of tools i used previously is working.

Recovery flasher is working from phone but reporting errors when i'm trying do anything, like backup.

Booting from PC is working - i can see bootloader, but during next step i can see only:

c:\Android>fastboot boot Recovery-RA-HERO-v1.2.2.img

downloading 'boot.img'... FAILED (remote: not allow)

It doesn't look much impressive :-/

Dear Paul,

I updated my T-Mobile G2 Touch with the RUU that was posted up on the T-Mobile UK Website yesterday evening... I did a nandroid back up thinking that if I didn't like the ROM I would revert to your MODACO 2.2 version. Having noticed that the phone got completed wiped by the new ROM. I did steps to RE-ROOT the phone using flash rec + Cyanogen 1.4 .... The "Flash recover image" remianed greyed out... I have been looking everywhere for some step by step instructions on how to RE-Root the phone and get the custom Roms MD 2.2 back on but with no luck....

Is there a way to do this.... ?

Some help from the Forum members and "savvys" would be much appreciated.

Many thanks for all your help and advice everyone.

Darren

Nah, AL/BA messages are a standard thing on normal Monthly tarriffs to find out your Balance and free minute Allowances on T-Mobile - I'm not sure if it translates to PAYG users or not - it doesn't cost anything to send so try messaging 150 with AL or BA and seeing what you get. In the past, the SIM Toolkit application did absolutely nothing when you used any of the options available (at least that was my testing.) Now it actually sends the text messages to 150 using the phone's shizzle. It's nothing really, just nice to know it's fixed.

Other than that, I've found no issues whatsoever with this new rom. I've managed to redownload an application I bought off the old market place without hitch. I've logged into all the social apps I have. And I've started working through installing lots of the other Apps I have.

The camera app is definitely faster somewhat. Everything does fly. Actually, one reason I'd imagine this "feels" faster is that a lot of the animation transitions have been sped up with some form of frameskipping. It's a HCI cheat, but it works.

I've got a Mybackup Pro made from before the phone was flashed (Texts, Contacts, etc) - but noticing that all my contacts are there from Google and Facebook, and not really needing any of the SMSs from before - I wonder if I will bother reinstating my old Data. Might just leave things the way they are.

just did a ba / al check manually to 150 then tried the sim toolkit one. Both seem to work so defo will stick to pauls. Well that is until someone manages to get root back on the new tmobile update!

Hahaha - they're most awesome now :)

The only real pro with going with T-Mobile for me back then were the exclusive "black HTC Hero/G2 Touch" - which afaik you can't get on any other provider, and that their web'n'walk is the only one that provides 3GB allowance on the move as well.

If I'd have known it'd take more than a month to receive drastic updates I may well have reconsidered those 2 options!

I'm having the same problem with marketplace after the uppate. One program tells me that there's a problem and that I need to log on at checkou.google.com - I do that and there isn't a problem as far as I know. The other app keeps authorising my card (again!!) and then as soon as the download starts it reports that it was unsuccessful.

MAy try and switch over to Modaco rom once there is a fools guide to doing it from the updated T Mob rom.

Apart from that its really a massive improvement. The screen is much more responsive and the camera function has been greatly improved with regards to shutter lag.

If you have flashed the official update, I think the root loophole has been closed (confirm by trying 'instant root'). At the moment, you're stuck with the ROM you're on!

Dear Paul,

I installed the Official T-Mobile Update that came out a couple of days ago. I am having difficulties re-rooting the phone. Is this it? Will the phone ever be ROOTABLE in the future?

Any chance of a breakthrough in the future? Has anyone had a any luck cracking this problem?

Many thanks

Darren
