Hi, it does work. I put the device in bootloader mode (a blue screen with three lines of text. The last line says: 'Serial no: Unknown'. Is this right?). Then I connect the pulse to the computer via usb. After that I run 'install-superboot-windows.bat'. Now I see a cmd window saying it is waiting for a device. It waits forever. :) I use windows 7. Is this the problem?

copy the AdbWinUsbApi.dll from the sdk/tools folder and place it in the windows/superboot folder.
hope that helps

Awesome, cheers Paul. Just ran this, and now I'm rooted.

Might be worth while mentioning pulling the battery(and disconnecting USB) in the original post as people have wondered? :)

i rooted my phone yesterday and everything seemed fine, but as i try to go to recovery mode on my phone through quickboot application, a yellow "Error: cache/recovery/something-i-can't-read-because-it-disappears-very-fast" line is appearing and my phone restarts, and boots normally. what's the problem here?

ok. i realy need some help. i installed the custom rom for my pulse and after doing so, none of my apps worked any more. i solved this by simply reinstalling them.
however superuser permissions also would not work, ie if i type su into terminal emulator, an su request pops up but then android tells me to force close. i decided to fix this id just root the pulse again, however, this has not worked and hass also caused all my apps to dissapar, and i can no longer ge into recovery as quib boot cant run since superuser permisssions keeps crashing.
   somebody please help!!!

edit; i am also unable to install any new apps, i get an error saying cannot install on this phone. i have tried formatting and repartitioning the sd card butit still doesnt work, if any one has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

i had considered reinstalling the stock rom, but im not sure on how to do this, im assuming you need to use the recovery enviroment, which, as i said, i cant access. arrr!!!

Had exaclty same thing happen, go to wipe your phone and low and behold it takes you to the recovery menu.

I can't get this to work.
I've installed PC suite and it loaded all of the drivers for the Pulse.

I've extracted superboot and the ADB phone is recognised in System / Devices with no driver issues.
However when I click on superboot I got the original 'AdbWinUsbApi.dll' message so I've put the missing file on the folder.

Now all I get is 'waiting for device' - my device is also showing no serial number.

Can anyone help? I'm running Vista.

I have a G1 and HERO both rooted and running custom boot images and Modaco roms so I know a little bit, but not everything!

I just tried to ADP with my VERY limmited knowledge and it says device not found.
HOwever while in Boot loader mode and looking at Control Panel I have listed

ADB Interface - Android Sooner Single ADB Interface, is this right?

Did you manually point the "found device" dialog at the driver in the PC Suite directory?
W7 for me dodn't find the drivers, so didn't work until I'd done that.

Ignore that i ended up just doing it on my windows xp box. It was to do with windows 7's permissions, all working now ;)

Can't  get this to work on Win7.

I installed the PC suite drivers manually so my phone is recognised.
I then downloaded the files, unzipped them and deleted the MACOSX folder.
I pasted  in the missing AdbWinUsbApi.dll file.
Then I turned off my phone and started it in bootloader mode, fired up the install-recovery-windows file, it can see my phone, writes the file to it nothing else exciting happens.
Then I pull the battery out and turn on normally.

But there's no newapplication installed!

If I install quickboot from the market place then I get "need root permission". So it's not rooting the phone or installing anything.

Am I meant to have the recovery image somewhere special?

Any help appreciated! ;)

while writing the file to your phone does bootloader confirms that file <xxx> has been writen?(or something .. cant remember exactly but main thing is it shoudl give you a readout that some file has been written and how big the file is).. i had some issue with writing to my phone to. this worked for me:

disconnecting the cable then running the install app it will say waiting for device.
now connect your pulse(allready in bootloader mode..) once it is connected and recognised by the sytem your app should continue and write the file to the pulse. this can be verified by output in the bootloader
repeat whole proces for more files/stuff
