applying a rom possible new way

Here's a thought

Just messed up my phone (again lol) so doing hard reset and applying all the old settings files programs etc from sprtie backup

so was thinking as it back ups all the system files, programs in a massive backup file, could you use a back up file from lets say a new rom and apply it to you current rom and update it with all the new files, with out having to like me worry about try to get XP mode to flash right.

Im no rom builder and have little idea on what goes in to them, but this must work to a extent right ?

Any info would be good
