B7610 Real Accessable Ram

Guest Parlas

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have two very CRUCIAL questions to make.

I've heard that B7610 has only 60MB accessible RAM :) .

So here it is:

1. What is the free RAM immediately after a boot-up with TouchWiz enabled?

2. What is the free RAM immediately after a boot-up with TouchWiz disabled?

Thank you in advance for your replies,

Parlas.

Come on guys.. :)

How hard is it for you (who already have the phone) to add some simple information about the RAM of the phone?

Please reply, I think that's crucial for performance..

Not to be a flamer, but since I'm being flamed at (being a owner of the phone).

How hard is it for you (who don't have the phone but want one) to search the web for some specs of the phone you think of getting?

BTW. 256 mb ram, 512 rom and then there's the 1 gig internal storage. I believe this baby has 2 gig's in total internal at least that's what the device says @ my storage (1956.00 MB). But surely you need to learn how to use GOOGLE!!!

well i used google, all sites say: 256 MB RAM

my device say: 256 MB RAM

after closing all programs and disabling the Samsung home screen only 61 MB is available. can you tell me where the other 197 MB is??

Thanks!

winmo? :D

seems it doesn't matter if you have windows on your mobile or your pc, it's always very hungry for ram :)

to be honest, I've only had issues with apps loading slowly once and that was with loads of other apps running in the background. so personally I don't care about the numbers, never even checked how much ram is accessible after booting because everything runs smoothly if you don't have sh*tloads of stuff open.

I think you disabled the home screen (widgets) but how about the touchwiz interface (start menu interface)?

I think thats sucking the ram. BTW with all my progs I have 219.20 MB reserved (not in use) for programs and the running programs. And I have 36,80MB free. But when I launch tomtom for instance I still have the 36,80 MB free.

So I'm not sure how the memory is allocated but I do not notice any performance loss.

Glad to hear phone doesn't lag. :)

Has someone Fully removed touchwiz?

Or even more used some other interface like touchflo?

How much is accessible RAM this way? :D

But surely you need to learn how to use GOOGLE!!!
p.s.: Such information exist only in modaco... i challenge you to use google

and find even one trace of information about accessible RAM.. :D

Friendly,

I did not say that. I only stated the memory stayed the same after opening tomtom. I guess the system itself must be reserving the memory. Don't think touchwiz does this. Then again, WM doesn't reverse memory as well so I'm clueless here.

Hint: Use the phone. Just get the feeling :)

As you said; numbers don't matter.

I wish i could test the phone. But here in Greece we always get phones 2 or 3 months after their debut in England..

I am to buy the phone from clove and this RAM rumor is worrying me..

Thank you for your replies,

Parlas.

p.s: I would totaly go for Omnia II but i'am really addicted to qwerty..

But I as said before. I do not notice the whole ram issue. Don't forget about the 800mhz CPU. Wait... there is this thing... when you are listening to music with touchplayer and you want to take a picture the phone tells you he needs to shut down touchplayer. But when I listen to music with coreplayer or windows media player and I want to take a picture I do not have this issue. So I guess it must me some samsung limitation they put in the source code for their own software.

You asked if you could uninstal touchwiz. I checked for you but all you can do is disable it. It is alot faster that way as you would have guessed.

BTW. I just disabled touchwiz and installed spbmobileshell. When you do this the phone is way faster then it is straight out of the box with all the functionality and more. Mine says it has a total memory of 136.31MB - used is 72.46 MB and free is 63.85MB. I have activesync, touchplayer, spbmobileshell and outlook open @ the moment and it still reacts as it should. But this raises another question... why can't I see the whole 256 MB.

BTW I know a guy in greece and he orderes his phones from the netherlands (most dutch phones include English). He said he has no problems with them.

Kali speras fille! (don't know how to write it (especially not in greeklish) but I know how to say it :) )

Kalhspera kai se esena file :) (means: good afternoon to you too my friend),

That's what i'm talking about.. Htc pro 2 starts with 135(+-5) free RAM.. I would like to ask anyone who has used both phones, his feeling.. Does processor overcome the lack in memory?

Yours sincerely,

Parlas.

As I said, don't look at the numbers. I don't have any problems waiting for default apps to load.

It needs 3 seconds to start TomTom Navigator 7 :)

It's fast.

what version of windows, what verison of tomtom (I mean the digits behind the 7) are you using

takes 14-20 secs for me...

the onli prob i encounter with ram is when i run the xtrat game. the games seems to take up lots of ram to run. i think it needs 40 to 50mb of ram. so if my ram is below it, it cant run.

i using spb mobile. somehow over time the ram will decrease. i started at 55mb ( spb use 10mb btw) over the day it will drop to 40 plus. if i did not restart the system, it goes to 30 plus and then stays at 25mb. that is after a few days of using.

i do not know where the memory leak is coming from. but i think it shd be the spb mobile theme im using.

anyway for other function the low ram does not cause any lag. so im leaving as it is. once in a while i would restart to get back at 55mb of ram.

Look at other threads please. It has already been established where the ram is. The device is basically the same as the O2 internally. The reserved section is for radio (3G, cellular, WiFi Bluetooth), page pooling, camera buffer and why do you think you have a dedicated 3D card? Yep. Reserved memory.

So radio occupies 48mb of RAM (shared RAM between radio and Samsung CPU), GPU + 3D buffers 26mb, ~16mb for pagepool, and 22mb for camera buffers.

So that's 48+26+16+22 = 112 leaving about 144mb for windows to see, which sounds about right. Less another 60mb for windows' use and your left with ~80mb depending on your setup.

Hi all,

i'm a noob in this forum and sorry for my english!

But i have some experience with Win6.0, 6.1 and 6.5 @ other devices (HTC P3600 & Eten M800).

This devices have 64MB RAM totally and all Win-Versions run on this Phones. (Installed with Custom Roms are after reboot minimum 20MB free for use)

I think the B7610 reserve its memory for both Modi (Work / Home) half by half (128MB Work / 128MB Home) at startup.

On both Modi you have a fully customizable WindowsVersion, so it have to boot 2 Windows simultaneously.

Then Win6.5 and the other installed applications like TouchUI will together take 60-70MB of RAM.

=> Free RAM to use: about 50MB @ both Partitions! (like 100MB in one Partition :( )

I think the only way to get more RAM is to deactivate one Modus in a CustomROM an get the full 256MB (exclusive SystemReservations) to use.

Samsung told me @ their hotline, that deactivating one Modus isn't possible... ROM-Cookers: Do you get along with this conclusion?

Any other opinions about this?

i *highly* doubt that. life + work mode are just features of touchwiz, which is no more than a shell for standard win mobile.

disable touchwiz + both life and work mode are gone. you gain some ram (10mb or so?) but nothing like the 128mb you hope for

Hey santoo.. It was only a consideration of mine.

On my B7610 was Win6.5 already installed and i heaven't test a CustomROM yet. If I disable TouchWiz i don't loose the ability to switch between Life&Work (It's only the appearance of your Today-Screen..)

Disabling TouchUI isn't possible for me - the entry in Samsung Options is missing in Win6.5.

Are you able to deactivate this? => Do you get back to original Win6.5 without any Samsung features? => What's about your free RAM? Only 10MB?

And another Question about this: If it's only a shell on Win6.5, why don't use both Modi the same RAM?

If i install and run several applications in "Work" and switch over to "Life" i have the same free RAM as not running any apps in "Work"..

Btw, the running apps are not closing if you are switching.. right?

hey freeze, sorry if i came across wrong, it's mainly just assumptions on my part too <_<

sorry, i'm back to 6.1 roms so i can't really comment on 6.5s.

when i disable touchwiz, i "lose" life/work-mode ("lose" under quotationmarks, as i don't think there's any loss ), i just gain a couple of mb ram (yup, approximately 10 iirc).

if by samsung features you mean the programs (like smart reader, memo, converter, etc) - they are still available. it's just the UI that's disabled

And another Question about this: If it's only a shell on Win6.5, why don't use both Modi the same RAM?

If i install and run several applications in "Work" and switch over to "Life" i have the same free RAM as not running any apps in "Work"..

my guess would be that they *do* use the same ram. it might be, that when switching from work to life mode, the content of the ram gets written to a file (something like a swapfile on a pc), so the ram can be used again without of losing any data. as soon as you switch back, the content of the swapfile gets transfered to ram, so it seems like all your programs have been running all along. (which they have not if my assumption is correct)

just my guess!

Btw, the running apps are not closing if you are switching.. right?

you tell me! run e.g. touchplayer in workmode, switch to lifemode & check, whether you still hear the music :(

and if you do: check ram in both modes to see whether the amount of ram changes from work to life, if touchplayer is actually still running in the other mode...

The key thing here is the reserved memory isn't accessible at all! That is why winmo can't see it and only sees about 140mb (my mistake before). PAGEPOOL IS ACTUALLY 20MB rather than 16. Which is actually ridiculous and ideally should be somewhere around 10-12mb. The remaining reserved ram is for as i said hardware requirements such as the radio etc.

Hey Santoo,

your suggestion seems to be a good one...

If it is build like a shell than it would be the best to write the RAM to a file @ switching... I didnt really thik about this. <_<

On one Hand it's a miracle, why TouchPlayer is playing in both Modi (if its written to a file) But on the other Hand you told me about the free RAM @ diabling TouchUI. I hoped disabling it would save more!

But i have another Question @ Arda Yilmaz: You are right, 20MB Pagepool is really too much! On my old phones i have a Pagepool of 3! (ROM-specific... maximum was 6MB). But what does the Phone all reserve for Hardware? Compare the Eten M800 with the B7610.. There are not so much differences between both devices which causes so much reserve of RAM...

Are there any possibilities to reduce it?

There are quite a few significant differences there. First of all the most important aspect is that the M800 doesn't have a dedicated 3D GPU. This is the primary memory hog. Second is that there is a MUCH lower res camera on it with NO 480p video recording. (Video buffers). The third is the pagepool size. There are custom roms out there that reduce it by 5mb or so but any lower and it causes startup issues.

I understand Arda Yilmaz...

Thank you for this Info! What a pitty!

I hope some ROM-Cookers will fix the low memory Problem soon so we can run more apps on this promising phone... <_<
