I'm trying to assign one of the buttons to MSVC, however, this application does not appear in the list of applications...has anyone else encountered this problem...and know of a workaround?

thanks

There is a link to MSVC in the \Windows\Startup folder. Open File Explorer and copy Voice Command.lnk from there to the \Windows\Start Menu folder and then you should see MSVC in the Start Menu. If it's in the start menu, you should be able to assign it to a button in settings.. Hope this works, if not, just state the problem in this thread.

You need to use WinMo settings to assign the button, samsung settings will not list the voice command functions. However for WM6.5, you need to edit the registry to show the WinMo settings.

As mentioned above, VC doesn't play nice with WM6.5 and the Samsung reskinned Settings apps, insofar as interfacing with it.

To solve both problems (button assignment, settings panel), enable the old-style Settings applet first:

HKLM\Security\Shell\StartInfo\HideSettings -> 0

Reboot.

After that, press the Start menu button (top left), and scroll down until you find the old-style settings applet... there will be two, both icons look like gears. The one with the dark-blue ring in the middle of it is the Samsung settings interface that you're already familiar with. There will be another one in there now, all gray -- that's the old-style settings. Click on that.

Go to your "Personal" folder. In there will be the old-style button assignment cpl, which is identical to the WM6.1 cpl. You will find Voicecommand as a choice for button assignment there. DO NOT follow the advice above and simply place a link to the Voice Command.exe in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs... this will not work.

Also in the Personal folder is the VC settings cpl.

You're good to go!

I've got two questions 1. So if MSVC works on the Omnia II, does that mean it sports voice dialling out of the box? 2. Does it work through the BT headset, as it does on Khuanchai's roms?

Thanks!

It has lots of problems on the 920, at least in my experience.

There were a variety of things I didn't like about Nuance, so I purchased VC 1.6 and installed it. It crashes regularly with an error that it is out of resources.

I got it to work reliably through BT one time after repeated installs, but have had to wipe and rebuild my phone config, and I've never gotten it to work well through BT again. Which is my primary need for VC.

So, I've abandoned it at this point, and gone back to Nuance, which is more limited, but works reliably. Except for S2U2, in which case it doesn't work at all when the screen is locked. One more little thing I'm having to mortscript around.

Such is the price of an open platform.

Yeah, mine's working reliably so far. I haven't tried via bluetooth yet. I just had to look up the commands... But it definitely has more features than nuance and allows more functionality as far as reading information back to you, etc. Apparently nuance makes software that does voice transcription for text input, they have a video presentation of this functionality readily accessible on the net. I wonder why it's not included or able to be?

I've installed MSVC onto it, and also noticed that the program is not in the installed programs list. As we already know, it's not listed in the assign buttons list either. Anyway, I'm fine with that for now because it is actually enabled by a single press of the cube. The button 1 setting for it is actually unnamed. Anyway, BT voice dialing worked straightaway with me right out of the box. MSVC also does what it's supposed to as well.

Thanks a lot for that piece of information, dwallersv! Now I've at least got complete settings control again.

Off subject a bit... but you wouldn't also happen to know how to enable the default WM applet for email would ya? I've tried the advice in tachaan's tweaks thread, but it didn't work for me. I don't want to flash a custom ROM just yet.

Bluetooth voice routing doesnt work with Rodrigofd's LEO2 Fusion Beta2 (surprisingly it worked well in Beta1)

Im waiting for Enrico to cook JD4 ROM + Touch Sense .

Omniall's Lateral Btn cannot be assigned with MVC or any other command, it will automatically reassigned itself to <Today> after next reboot

So only 3 buttons left can be used.

My Settings>Personal>Program buttons

Hexagon button <Rotate Screen>

Hexagon button(hold) Voice Command - this is microsoft voice command, it appears in the list

Lateral btn <Today> You cant change this

Lateral Btn (hold) Audio Notes Touch - this is for quick record call, sound, radio etc.

Ok all, I am actually using MSVC on my i920 as a replacement for Nuance and using the phone button to activate it. Here's how I did it:

1. first you have to have a good file explorer installed, I use Resco

2. go into your Windows folder, in options select the option to unhide all files

3. the Nuance file is voicerecognition.exe, find that and go to properties

4. uncheck the box for "read only" so you can change the name of the file

5. change the name of voicerecognition.exe to something line voicerecognition_bkup.exe in case you want it for later

6. now find the "voice command.exe" file and rename it to "voicerecognition.exe"

7. now when you hold down the phone button it still is mapped to "voicerecognition.exe" but that file actually runs MSVC.

Been using this for about a month now problem free, much faster than Nuance and in general better!

Good luck

Hmm interesting. I am using Voice Command without any modifications and after installing the cab, the button that is automatically activating voice command is the cube button. I didn't have to assign it at all. It works great

Just to dig a bit deeper, you installed the MSVC cab first, or course; did you then reboot, and simply make the changes above? I'm going to give this approach a whirl with VJBrisk first, and if that doesn't work, I'll try your method.

I would really, really, really like to use MSVC instead of Nuance. Especially for the much better ability to control music playback.

Does it all work successfully with BT too?

@gdrijver: He's talking about the "phone" button, which can't be reassigned, and is hardwired (software metaphor) to run Nuance when you press it.

You need to enable the settings menu, thinks its a registry hack that I found on the forum

Show Windows Setting in Start Menu:

* Open any registry editor, go to path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\ amd change Value 'HideSettings' to '0' (credits to rodrigofd)

* Also you can enable it using SKtools

It's not there

Strange, that's where it is on my device. Cant help you more...

just a stupid question:

you have tried accessing that settings by going into the standard 6.5 startmenu and then pressing standard "settings" icon (NOT the samsung settings icon!), then you should find it under personal folder.

I have already tried that, the Personal folder is not there.

Thank you for trying to help.
