Fix tomtom without GPS proxy (choosing integrated GPS in TomTom)

Recommended Posts

Finally after many hours of work i got my GPS running with tomtom without running GPS proxy and with choosing the integrated GPS receiver :(

Running WM6.5 rom ver: I8000NXXIJC

Running TomTom ver: 7.916 9189

first i've set the baudrate to 9600 in setting (still let windows control the device)

I was wondering why HTC was working with integrated GPS and Samsung don't, My simple guess is it is because HTC uses port4, and not port 7. So the next step is changing the programport to port 4 in the GPS settings!! (not the hardwareport)

next go into the registry and go to (maybe this is not necessary, but i've changed it when playing to find the working settings):

HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/GPS Intermediate driver/Drivers/samsung GPS Hardware

change inputbuffersize and outputbuffersize both to 8192

When everything configured for port 4 run tomtom and choose the integrated GPS receiver...

After 5 second it should change from no GPS to searching sattelites, after that on my device i've got a fix after 5 minutes ;) (be patient). If the GPS stays on no GPS, you've went wrong choosing the programport

Next time the fix wil be in around 15 seconds.... :D

So I guess I've got the honour to be the first one navigating without GPS Proxy and with "integrated GPS" on the i8000 :D

Btw. all other programs like google maps etc. keeps also working!

Cheers!!!!

Thanks for the tip but it doesn't work for me all the way. I'm getting message: poor GPS connection, are you in the building? So from not working at all before to trying to connect that's a progress. :D

On the Secany thread somone posted saying he could now (with IK5 rom) use Tomtom without gpsgate too (without mentioning any changes in the settings)

I am on PDA and CSC = IJC and Phone =IK2 and it's working for me with this. Maybe someone with older ROM can try and see if they can get it working on that ROM by following instructions in first post of this thread

Install GPSModDriver, you will get GPS fixed in less than 15 seconds every time, including the first time.

Mine doesn't work for all the software, Garmin, Agis, Mapking... Even sometimes I stayed at the cross of road for several minutes it was still searching.

After installation, I got it fixed even in my room if i am near the windows.

Hello,

I have been trying everything said in this forum and in different posts to get position with tomtom 7 and I couldn't.

I am using port 4, 9600 and integrated gps, but also tried other gps, and setting COM port and speed, but the only thing I get is low signal and tomtom asking if I am inside a building, which I am not of course.

I am using tomtom 7.916, last version I presume, and Secany´s IL2, but there was no way to get position. I also have tried IGO8 and this one worked very well once I set the COM port and speed, taking some time at first to get position, but being very fast after that.

I prefer to use Tomtom instead of iGO, and I don´t want to install gpsgate or any of those, as people say it should work straight... do you have any ideas on how to make it work? What I don't understand is why some people report that it work and some don´t... what could be the problem?

I have Google maps installed and GPS is also working, so I have no idea why tomtom is the only program not working.

Hello,

Here is my personal experience with both i900 and i8000.

i900 version : WM 6.1 - PDA XXHJ3/CEHJ2 -Tel XXHI4

i8000 version : WM 6.1 - PDA XXIH3 - CSC XENIH2 - Tel XXIH2

1. I intalled TOMTOM 7.916.9189

2. In registry, I've set BufferSize to 8192 and gpsid to nihil

3. In settings, I've set XTRA to off - GPS Program Port COM4- GPS hardware Port COM9 - Baudrate 4800 (and tried also 2400 and 9600) - Automatic access

4. I deleted the files GPSID and XTRA

5. I made a softreset

6. I launched Tomtom

7. I selected the integrated GPS receiver

8. After 20 seconds for i8000 and 5 minutes for i900 i got a first fix.

9. If I re-launch them during the following minutes or even whithin 1 hour, I get a fix within 10 seconds for i8000 and 30 to 45 seconds for i900. Until here, everything works well and I'm very happy.

The problem is that if I try to launch Tomtom after several hours (I noticed it mainly in the morning), it's impossible to get a fix, even if I wait for 10 minutes. In such a case, the only way to get a fix (with both phones) is to make again a soft reset.

Hence, I'm wondering if :

1. After a while Tomtom or the GPS internal driver lest some rubbish in the momory that prevents Tomtom to load again

2. The change of date (in the morning) creates some king of bug

3. There is something else to be changed in the registry (RetryWaitOn Error - SleepOnNoData - ...)

Thanks in advance for your helps / suggestions

That's very strange. I will keep having a look at the GPS behavior and try to get some conclusions. In the meantime I hope someone with deeper knowledge can shed some light on this.

Weird!!

i'm trying to get tomtom 7 to work without any extra programs, and it seams that the solution is near.

Can anyone help me please with these questions?

- How do i get into the register of my phone. Do i need a program? If so wich one is the best?

- On what number do i set the hardwareport?

- I want to let tomtom to work without gprs, what is the best way. I've changed settings in my phone but everytime when i turn it on again or start tomtom, these settings are gone.

Thanx in advance

Has anybody tried typing in *#1472365# into their Omnia2?

It brings up some extra gps settings, some of which are similar to settings that can be reached in registry but some are unique.

The main one that was of interest to me was the start up mode of GPS.

Mine was set to cold start which meant that every time i started my tomtom it did so by deleting all previous data.

This meant i was on a cold start each and every time i used it which was why it took forever to lock sometimes.

I have now changed this setting to "hotstart" and my locks are instant.

There are various other settings that can be played with and tried out but this setting alone got rid of the only flaw i could find in the Omnia2.

With the Verizon i920 and updating to newest rom [2 months ago] , I've not had to make any

setting changes other than the obvious location/911 thangy.

No regedits , no port swaps ,no baud changes , no gps gate

or any other similar replicators. Nothing

TomTom & iGo & google all work just great.

Acquisition is typically under 30 seconds and

get three sats even indoors. Side by side

with my TomTom 720....both damn near equal
