We have removed the Swype application post for the time being as we ate currently talking to the Swype team regarding copyright infringment.

The product may be part of a ROM and not available commercially to the public but it is still protected and the author has the right to reqest its removal.

So for now we would like to point you in the direction of other available applications that do the same job as Swipe and are available to buy.

SlideIT by Dasur,

This is a paid application and a reasonable $14.99 a demo is available here

http://www.mobiletextinput.com/index.php

Sharewriter,

A more expensive and not as graphically pleasing application at $19.95

copyright infringement!? Maybe! But there was a user with "The Swype Team" ID, apparently representative of Swype developing team, earlier today, posted their statement regarding this issue under all 9 existing "Swype" threads in MoDaCo and at the same time granted permission for use of their product to all users, actually the ripped CAB, however he DID point at rippers/hackers regrading their action and said "we are obligated to state that we don't condone such activity nor support the result".

So, If they are still standing their ground that no one is allowed to use this CAB, based on removal of all thread on MoDaCo, I'll respect it and delete it from my device and wait for a retail one, as I told him earlier, and if not!? I prefer to keep it and continue my experience with Swype while waiting for an official release.

I am currently waiting on a reply at the moment regarding this, out of respect for the developer I have removed the post for the time being, that does not mean it will be reinstated.

Ok we have recieved a request to remove all cab files from posts, this will also means that unfortunately ROMs cannot be permitted if they the include Swype application.

I completely support this. Developing software is no small investment.

On the flip side, companies like Swype (and SRS Labs, as another hot example) create the environment for this sort of piracy when they decide to refrain from offering a standalone package for purchase by anyone to get these features and capabilities. I understand that this is often a result of "exclusivity" agreements with partners, and maybe that business model is more profitable. Regardless, it is the circumstance that creates strong motivation to reverse-engineer and pirate, and this will never go away with those sorts of practices.

Been lurking for a while and found this nice keyboard, but unfortunately now not available ;)

In any case, I've been using FingerKeyboard, it's free and very good. Was about to compare with Swype (if it's better?) but now I'll just stick with FK ..

Do you mean FingerKeyboard by Giannis86 at XDA Devs?

Try the links in the first post, from what I am led to believe SlideIT is pretty similar to Swype and as it is a completely different input to FingerKeyboard it's more a matter of taste as to how you will get along with it. The sliding your finger is always going to be easier than tapping the screen for each letter, especially on the Omnia2 as the onscreen keyboard is so small.

Man too bad it really does rock and its only limited to the i920 here in the USA they should put a demo if it in marketplace

this could end up like skyfire highly renowned by hardcore but also limited circulation to gen public due to lack of advertisement I wish them well but I hope they

dont get to high and mighty and overprice this as text to voice ie google especially is coming along nicely and available to a lot of handsets, I think $5.99-$7 and it will sell like hotcakes but get this out to everyone man before its too late dont sit on this little gem swype guyz before no one has to type anymore and just gets used to voice to text apps

I'm sorry for bringing up what is possibly an old topic, however I'm actually a Omnia i910 user, not an Omnia 2 so I'm a bit behind...

Is Swype still included in custom ROMs for the Omnia 2 at the moment?

My question is only due to the possibility in possibly changing from the Omnia 1 to the Omnia 2 down the road or something similar and since Swype is included in the Omnia 2 by default.

Technically as the custom ROM for the i920 will only work on the i920 then it can be included as long as it has not been altered in any way.

I have a chance tested swype for short period. don't like it and used back Samsung keyboard. Already removed from my PC, PPC without any sign. Gone swype.

Wow, that's bad news. I adore Swype and feel happy every time I use it. It took me a week to really get into the feel of it, but now it seems perfect...

Let's hope they figure out how much people want this and make a change in their plan.
