Create AccountWhen I do a hard reset, power phone off hold e and z keys, is that the same as using the master reset, master clear options built into the system tools folder? Also, will this undo any registry hacks? Sorry for asking such (probably) elementary questions, but this is my first WM device and I'm still trying to figure it out. Thanks in advance for any answers.

A hard reset is similar to the master reset option and it will revert the phone back to it's factory settings or if you have previously flashed the phone with another ROM it will revert to a fresh flashed state.
Any registry alterations you have made along with software you have installed and contacts etc will be wiped.
