Any of you guys using any Custom Eclair or Flan ROMS that are good to use daily?

Thanks

Hi. I've used most of the 2.0/2.0.1 ROM's that are floating about at the moment and I've settled on jnwhiteh's Hero AOSP 2.0.1 ROM from over at HTCpedia:

http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1528

I've found it to be the most stable and most functional of them all.

Obviously this one being AOSP it has none of the HTC Sense UI prettyness but I dont mind that at all. I love the updated stock Android UI from 2.0.1 especially the lockscreen. This ROM does have a few issues but for my usage they really aren't noticeable. I highly reccommend it.

Currently its at release r6 but I actually use his r4 with a few tweaks. Mainly because in r6 he removed APP2SD because some people had issues with it. Personally I have no issues with APP2SD. He also replaced the stock Android keyboard with the HTC one in r6 but I much prefer the stock Android one.

Hope this helps

Likewise I used jnwhiteh's Hero AOSP 2.0.1 r6, but found a version with A2SD and stock keyboard.

I can agree this is the most stable of all the versions out there, I had tried Lox 2.1 ROM but phone was unusable for me

too many function didn't work or force closed. With jnwhiteh's AOSP2.0.1 my issues were with the camera which I don't use too often, but got a force close, but you do have added benefits of the later Market etc

I had used this version for a few days and with AmonRa 1.5.2 recovery image, have created a Nandroid Back Up of AOSP and MCR son I can switch between the 2 at leisure.

Hopefully as the New Year approaches there may be an official realease that can be ported to the HTC Hero so we can all reap the benefits of a stable ROM

Nandroid Backup and give it a whirl. check out his HTCpedia forum

Yeah I've just downloaded the new r6 with stock keyboard and A2SD. Got everything I need now :) I also have Nandroid backups of Lox 1.6, MCR 3.0 and HeroAOSP 2.0.1. Nandroid is brilliant for all these roms. Best utility I've ever used!

And no I've never had as issue with the USB mounting. I just do it as normal and it works perfectly. Honestly have no idea what is causing your issue. Its almost as if the card has got itself into a Read Only mode but I dont see how thats possible if the problem only shows up using that particular rom. Sorry I cant be of any help there. Maybe jnwhiteh might have some ideas...

I think i may have an idea of what's causing it, i was using Teracopy 2.1 (which is supposed to be a faster file copy utility) so no im goin to try copying using Windows, that usually sorts it out, i will update this post of the outcome.

I really do like jnwhiteh's ROM but i don't think he is going to support it for much longer ;) is there any major improvements in the 1.6 LOX ROM?

Thanks

No I've not had any issues besides the camera. The other thing I did notice was even though I already had apps installed from my existing ROM, these could not be reinstalled, I had to. do a fresh install of all apps.

I had no issues with my SD card at all

Guys the SD card issue is resolved although it's abit strange. I copy and paste into the SD and Windows 7 asks for permission to copy there but it's still able to be done.

As for the camera issue, ok the timestamp is abit annoying but it can always be cropped off :)

I'm also on 2.0.1 AOSP - r5 here, because I wanted no APPS2SD but I did want the stock keyboard. I tried r6 but the Genie widget wouldn't load, and with the keyboard kerfuffle I went back to my r5 nandroid.

Wonderfully stable IMHO and I prefer stock to all the Sense gubbins. Fast enough, although it seems it runs a generic video driver so menu scrolling is slightly jerky. Not tried any games on it yet.

I hope the AOSP project keeps going when 2.1 comes out from HTC, it'd be nice to add the last few missing bits that it needs (camera support up to 5mp would be nice! and the video driver) but even the headphones don't bother me - I use an extUSB headset from my old WinMo phone, and it detects that fine, detects the unplug ok. Either that or I use a bluetooth stereo headset with AVRCP.

Has anyone else had any issues with every single facebook contact being added to the phone contacts list? It's infuriating but I have only tried the LOX ROM so not sure if it's an issue with that build or what.

It's not TOO bad a build at the moment, quite slow though...but the Facebook thing is the reason I'm gonna pop on back to the modaco 2.8!

Yeah, you would link the profile like the people app says and then it adds every contact with a number to that list and you cant get rid of it, when seletecting a facebook user to link to one contact it doesnt search properly, that app is really broken.

The AOSP 2.0.1 that was mentioned above has all the market apps, including things like twidroid pro, so if you want barcode scanner i would use that. As for youtube on that build its a no no.

Hi

I got all the info from HTCpedia.

http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1528

There are many versions with r6 being the latest.

The ROMS were compiled by jnwhiteh originally, but his version r6 does not include HTC Keyboard or A2SD

The version with the HTC keyboard and A2SD is available from this link

http://rapidshare.com/files/327422126/aosp...y_dying4004.zip

Don't forget especially if you have AmonRa 1.5.2 to do a Nandroid backup before and once successfully installed, after, that way you can switch between the 2 as and when you feel

So I am very interested in installing the r6 rom but one question...

I am currently running modaco 2.6 (never bothered to install the latest releases..) I am currently using CyanogenMod v1.4 + JF boot loader. Is installing this rom as simple as putting in ontl to ds card and installing from there? If peform a nandroid backup and the r6 install goes bad - is it just a case on booting into the Cyanogen loader and restoring the nandroid backup?

Given that i am running CyanogentMod v1.4 = how would I go about changing to AmonRa 1.5.2?

Appreciate any help you can give!

err ok...

I went ahead and applied the update - all seemed to install fine. Rebooted and got the usuall T-Mobile G2/Android boot screen. It then changed to show the 'x' 2.0 flash screen - with the animation running. This ran for about 5 minutes then the animation stopped - leaving a static x screen image. Now nothing.... I have left if on there for about 10 minutes and nothing is happening. Is this normal - does it take longer than 10 mins to load on the first boot?

If this is not normal then safe to say something went wrong - is it now just a case of re-loading the nandroid back up and back to modaco 2.6?

Any ideas??

If you dont really need the R6 rom i wouldnt recommend it, so you should do an nandroid restore and stick with MoDaCo 2.6

You need to do a wipe before you install the AOSP 2.0.1. If you didn't do this then it'll likely fail. I've "upgraded" from Modaco 3.0 to this AOSP and i must admit it's pretty good just needs a new gfx driver and it would be near perfect! But that'll have to wait until HTC releases their official 2.1..

This just for those that might face the same problem so they know what to do :-) I see you have resolved your issues :)

T-Mobile G2 screen?!!!

Ewww!

Didn't you hear the good news?

There's a new unlocked SPL out.

You can use or create custom boot screens now :)

Free yourself from the tyranny of ugly boot screens, my fellow brethren....or sistren...I don't discriminate.

Do I need to wipe before installing this upgrade? I tried without and it was freezing on the boot screen (with the colours swooshing in)

I'm not to experienced with Nandroid Backup, please correct me if this is wrong, but can I -

Nandroid Backup my 3.0 install

Wipe (not SD, just phone)

Install 2.01

Nandroid Backup

Try to see how I like

Wipe

Restore Nandroid of 3.0

This would put me right back where I was? The big question being will the Nandroid Backup undo the effect of the Wipe? I assume it does, thats what its for, right?

been going back n forth between 2.0.1 and 2.1 ROMs and although they're a great start, I can't handle the keyboard lag, especially when typing texts. I've gone back to MCR3.0 and my typing speed has gone back to the same speeds it was when I used the iPhone.. virtually no more lag on the keyboard.
