Unlock and Flash ROM - Verizon O2 i920

Can anyone help me unlock my O2 i920 (Verizon) and flash my ROM? or direct me to another tread that i can follow to do this? Ive seen threads talking about the I8000, I8000L, etc. but not sure if those instructions will work with the Verizon O2.

any feedback is appreciated..please help this newbie :) .

I hard reset before upgrading (at the advice of SnowO2 - thanks) and had to enter the last four digits of my phone #. I'm not sure if this is the "unlock" that you're talking about, but I didn't experience any other place in the upgrading process that I had to unlock my phone.

I don't know what you mean by unlock, but the flash is straight forward. You can hard reset if you want, but it's not necessary.

It's really just a matter of connecting your phone to your PC via the microusb cable, letting Activesync (XP machine) recognize it, then running the .exe you downloaded from Samsung. Follow the prompts, and it will do the rest.

Currently there are no "Cooked Roms" for the i920. That is what some of us are trying to figure out now. There is an official update .exe that just came out, but you do not have to unlock your phone to use it. just download from the many links found in this forum and plug your phone into your PC.

FYI: The update is for dropped calls I believe, so if your calls are fine then you may not even need it.

so i guess the difficult part is cooking the ROM? :)

hopefully, someone cooks a slimed down ROM without widgets and other useless apps that comes installed by default.

I think you are completely misunderstanding things. Right now, there are no custom ROMs. The only ROM we have is packaged as part of an update by Samsung. The .exe file is a file which contains the software to write to the device and the official update. In order to load a custom ROM, we would need to find some sort of program that can write files to the device. For the Omnia i910, there was the UMDL; for the Omnia II i8000, there's OCTANS. Currently, there is no program that can do this for the i920.

We don't know what will work on the i920 yet. That's going to be one of the issues we need to resolve. The UMDL program used for the i900/i910 may have been a tool used by devlopers/carriers to load ROMs on phones - I really don't know how it got out. The i8000 has a program called OCTANS, but I don't know where that came from. I think we'll either have to write our own or find some sort of leak from an OEM. I really don't know yet how that will turn out.

Loaders and ROMs are separate things and aren't packaged together.

The loader was released by the same guy who leaked the beta ROM in the first place, at the same time. It was a very exciting time.

very! those were the days... is it possible for some of the programmers at modaco to come up with the same software? or do you think that someone on the inside (vzn or samsung) has to leak the files before we can get started?

I think he/she is just messing with you... There aren't any new roms yet for the I920... Folks are still trying to figure out how to build and kitchen and get a loader that will put stuff back on the device... Not sure how many are looking into it ... feels like very few at this point...

I was just wondering why he posted the com and baud rate settings for some GPS applications on the i910... In a thread concerning ROMS

EDITED: By the way, after reading WinMos headline today about Microsoft I PRAY that they do something fast! If they worked closely with HTC I am betting Samsung is also high up on their list. More WM development means more VZN updates... and not the kind of junk updates we saw last week, but more like CSC/PDA updates! :)

I'm not all that knowledgeable about coding, but wouldn't a VZN CSC/PDA update be the best thing to use in order to extract a proper bin and possibly help creating a loader?
