Hi I currently use a Nokia 5800 but will be changing to an N1 as soon as finances permit.

I have a couple of questions relating to Mail Contacts tasks notes and Google Docs

  1. How does the N1 deal with email I use Gmail for personal and Business can I have more than one account installed? If so is there a limit and can it be setup for push mail from Gmail?
  2. Does the N1 download email or read it remotely?
  3. I have about 600 contacts in my Google mail account will the N1 sync directly with my account and download all those over either WiFi or 3G? and will it automatically add new contacts I add to my phone to my Google account?
  4. The same question as above but relating to Google Tasks!
  5. Does the N1 come with an application that will let you create read and edit Google docs online direct from the handset?
  6. Does the N1 have a notes application and can you use the speech to text feature to dictate notes?

You can set up multiple gmail accounts in Android 2.1

  2. Does the N1 download email or read it remotely?
I think the Gmail app stores 10 or so messages then reads the rest remotely but Gmail on the mobile web, asks to use Gears so whether this allows offline access I'm not sure!?

  3. I have about 600 contacts in my Google mail account will the N1 sync directly with my account and download all those over either WiFi or 3G? and will it automatically add new contacts I add to my phone to my Google account?
Yes it will, I am not sure if there are any limits in place as to how many though...

  4. The same question as above but relating to Google Tasks!
For Gtasks you will need to download the Gtasks app which I think works very well

  5. Does the N1 come with an application that will let you create read and edit Google docs online direct from the handset?
Again there is a third party app for this which I think allows you to edit and create for a small upgrade fee, the free version allows you to view and download.

  6. Does the N1 have a notes application and can you use the speech to text feature to dictate notes?
I'm not sure if there is a native note app bundled with 2.1 but it has been said the voice feature works in any text field so I can't see why it wouldn't work in a third party notes app, though Evernote allows voice notes and will sync with your account on the net so you will have access to your notes on your PC/MAC or phone...

Hope that helps even with all the uncertainty..... :-)

Hi nanu*1

Thank you very much for such a detailed answer I really appreciate it it certainly helped me.

I was a bit disturbed to read today the Google driving instructions thing will not work in the UK I don't know about Europe yet but that could be a deal breaker for me, as I don't know if there is an alternative and I have to travel to sites in my job many of wich can be hard to find in the UY let alone when I have to go abroad!

I use Co-Pilot mate, Google did make it plain upon launch of Google Nav that it was for the states only, but unfortunately they didn't reiterate the information on the purchase screens of the Nexus One, the same can be said for Google voice as that my mislead people too.

There is a hack available to get Gnav working but how good it is I don't know as I haven't tried it and I am more than happy with Co-Pilot until Gnav becomes available here and establishes itself as a worthy contender.
