OK i'm getting my nexus tomorrow, just excited :(

I thought of the HTC desire but finally went to the Nexus One, I hope it was a good decission :( Because i like the nexus one it looks really great, and now Thnx to Paul we can put the sensUI on nexus so if i want i always can use the senseUI. but the main reason why i went for the nexus one was the updates, i think nexus will get the updates as first, i'm using hero now and its still stuck at 1.5 :( and the update to 2.x takes ages.

What do you guys think, was it a good decision?

yea it will get updates first, but if you plan on using the sense ui, you are going to have to stay with the bravo roms. so when android 2.5 is released, you won;t be able to upgrade to 2.5 with sense. you'll have to get the official 2.5 from google, at least until the htc gets sense ui working on the 2.5. just like the hero right now :-/

damn you're right :(

I like the sense but the interface of Android 2.1 Got better and maybe when android 2.5 and up comes we maybe don't need anything like the sense :( i'm already pleased with the 2.1 Interface it looks great and is fast.

In response to the title of the thread "yeah if you buy me one" - LOL

The Nexus One does seem where all the fun is at at the moment - nothing has really happened in the Modaco Hero community for the last month - lots of AOSP 2.1 ROMs on this and other sites, that don't work fully yet.

If you gave me money i will buy you one :( (you're a funny guy)

But i agree the whole Hero Rom development is just death (for now atleast). But i now want a larger screen wit a little more horsepower :(. I didn't wait for the desire because its almost identical to the nexus so no worrys there. but i'm not sure how the joystick works on the desire.

when is 2.5 being released? what are the features?

There is nothing like that (for now i think) we where just thinking forward :(

When Android 1.5 was initially released, the general opinion was Nice but dull, HTC decided to jazz up the UI and introduced Sense.

Since then Android have got their act together and introduced Android 2.1, which is a much better looking and functioning animal altogether so IMHO the need for Sense is not as urgent as before (i.e. these phones no longer need Sense to be a pleasurable experience). But having said that some people still prefer the Sense experience.

I think the Nexus 1 is an awesome phone, along with the noise cancelling microphone the updates OTA etc, it would, for me, be the phone of choice, however come November I will be due an upgrade and as I am on T-Mobile hopefully stand a good chance of getting the Desire or whatever new Android phone that may be released around that time.

I think you have made a wise choice it is a close call but the updates available from Google,

the availability and the price tips the balance in the direction of the Nexus 1

:(

That was exactly how i was thinking. But the only thing i really will miss is to change music from lock screen. that was just to handy. hope google wil make it possible in the future.

there some features that i will miss is to change music from lock screen. that was just to handy. hope google wil make it possible in the future. the HTC keyboard i think its better than the standard one. nice widgets.

You can change tracks with the earphones that come with the Nexus One

For me the Sense is not only about the interface. I like those 2.1 builds, but none of them is handling calendar as well as sense on hero. I am using Exchange for work and Google calendar for private purposes and having them both aggregated into one calendar is a great added value.

Otherwise Hero -> Nexus One is very nice evolution.

thnx Nice to know, but they aren't in ear headphones right? I prefer in-ear buds.

just wondering are there any in-ear headphones with mic and multimedia buttons for the nexus (or Hero)?

hmm i'm using my calendar a lot, but never really worked with the android calender neither i used exchange. but nice to know some people like sense for his UI and not only the looks.

For it's going to be the HTC Desire. Just from the fact that it's 50% cheaper at this moment and has a date set in stone when it'll be available.

Waiting _if_ and when the Nexus One is coming to NL... I don't have the patience for that :(.

If they were around the same price and available right now, I would probably go for the NexusOne. Pure for the support and freedom in flashing what you want. But that isn't worth the extra 400 bucks and probably months waiting for me :(.

They are in-ear if you mean they don't rest round the whole ear, they have removable foam pads.

Ok just wondering, how do you know the HTC desire price? i'm also in NL and i'm getting the nexus the unofficial way (from america) and pay the normal price for it. i have to change my contract next month so i didn't had that much time to wait. i looked at the both phones. what i liked on the nexus was the noise canceling microphone.

But i think the future android version will always support the nexus hardware. With the hero there are so many problems with drivers thats why no aosp 2.1 ROMs work 100%. But with the nexus (i hope) updates will always work well.

Thnx for the info, i think i didn't make my self clear with the in-ear. I use sennheiser ear buds (http://www.digitalstreet.nl/images/Sennheiser-CX-300-zwart.jpg) this one. it goes in you ear so better noise canceling from outside and the people around you don't hear you music (just a little maybe).

But if they are comfortable in your ear then i maybe will use them.

The Nexus will _probably_ be receiving updates if Android gets a major upgrade. But it's still a guess.

The cheapest for me to get a Nexus One here costs around 800 euro. The shipping and taxes when getting it over the border are immense. The only 'cheap' way to get it is if somebody buys it for me in the US and puts it in her / his back when flying back and _do not_ report it to customs... hence, kinda illegal.

or hxxp://www.smartphoneshop.nl/product/90883/htc-desire-brown.html?ref=2543

I have to correct myself though, the date when it's available is far from 'set in stone', it's just that smartphoneshop.nl never posted a wrong date for me yet and I've ordered multiple times from it. The only time was the delivery of the Hero, but HTC postponed the device multiple times so that's outside the control of the shop itself.

ok nice i didn't noticed it, i thought desire was coming in march anyways i'm getting mine for 500 euro so not that much difference. you can use usa2you.nl they make all the arrangements and send it to you tough it can take 4 weeks sometimes :( i know i see the prices on marktplaats.nl (dutch ebay kind of stuff) and the prices are absurd just too way overpriced.

I personally prefer that style anyway, normal buds don't still well on my ears. It won't surprise me if they release a new cable which allows custom earbuds

That would be nice, in fact sony ericsson has that, i used that and was pleased. the bottom part the connction had the controller and the mic than it had a 3.5mm input so you could use your own earphones. i loved it.

The normal earphones hurt my ear after a while. i'm in the train 4 hours a day so i want to enjoy my music without hurting my ears

I have 2 contracts with T-mobile... Just upgraded to Hero in November so not gonna get an upgrade until April 2011 on that line but I can use my other line for an upgrade in April 2010... :-)

I might get the SE X10 though... depends on if there's guarantees of upgrading the ROM to 2.1.

I sold my Hero to my sister to greatly reduced price and ordered a Nexus One from Google last week. Using Jetcarrier to get it shipped to Norway. I'm so looking forward to it :(

Yhea if the x10 came out last year (2009) it would be THE device, it is still a great phone, doesnt it still runs in 1.6? i think SE will do longer to update phone (if they gonna do it)

You mean t9, i don't use it i can typ really fast on the on-screen keyboard, so i don't have problems.

Well, not really T9. Just the spell-correction on the onscreen keyboard. Maybe I'm used to smaller devices but I type really fast on them and really rely on the auto-correction.

The same as the iphone, that keyboard is useless if you don't have any sort of correction on it.

My typing speed on the OSK simply _halves_ when there is no dictionary activated.
