install my fix in "automatic install" folder
if an error happens, you must manually copy gpsidril.dll in "manual install folder" to windows folder of your device

Until Microsoft finds the bug in gpsid.dll and Samsung makes a good gpsidril.dll this is the temporary fix.
It is their duty to make a good driver that doesn't need GPSModDriver or reducing cache. We are the customers, and paid for those devices instead of iPhOnE


Update: I am using wm6.5.3 JH2 ROM with JF1 phone (radio) ROM without any patch. I think, Samsung fixed gps with radio rom, and changing gpsidril.dll is obsolote.

Thanks a lot!! This fix is a real improvment for those like me who recieved the phone with WM6.5 so we were dissapointed with Gps signal streith.

Question: What is the sreen shot that you posted? Its an app for Gps?

Why does everyone seem to know how to replace stuffs in the Windows directory except me? first I can't see it on my PC second it won't allow me to replace anything.

weird gps driver needs simcard (I don't mean internet connection, or Xtra).
(3) Use JB1 Radio ROM. It is possibly contain best wm6.5 code for gps fixes now (March 1 2010).

gpgs fix was fast and reliable in wm6.1 but poor when you upgraded to wm6.5
Why? Did Samsung messed things up? Or is it Microsoft again?
Microsoft gives source code of gpsid.dll to manufacturers. And they makes their own drivers.
For example Omnia uses gpsidril.dll and htc uses GPSID_QCT.dll in their devices

Microsoft manages gps for better fixes, he makes drivers for it(gpsid.dll), right?

How could it be possible? Weird.
Both HTC and Omnia owners suffers gps reception and are satisfied by a translating driver, GPS Mod Driver.

So the idea is: use wm6.1 gps driver on wm6.5 i8000's.

How to install?

Please make a back-up of your original \windows\gpsidril.dll
install my fix in auotomatic installation folder
if an error happens, you must manually copy gpsidril.dll in manual instal folder to \windows folder of your device

I extracted wm6.1 ii2's gpsidril.dll for you.
Just copy it to your \windows folder with force by using Resco explorer or something similar.
Don't forget to backup your original gpsidril.dll before doing this.

installing cabinet file must enough. it both copies the dll and changes the registry.
You may need a soft reset to reload the gps driver by the system, if cabinet did not do it for you.

I have a problem that i think its not realted with your gpsfix:

I use Garmin Xt (becouse im from Uruguay and for this latin america region is the best software)
The problem is that when i run Gramin there is a gap of time in witch garmin seems to be frozen in terms of satellite searching (i notice taht when i start the soft, the phone try to connect to the internet but fails on that becouse i dont have a data plan in the phone) after a few seconds (like 30 seconds) garmin start to really search satellites.

Have you any ideas what could be the problem here?

last: In Nogarder GPS, Gps settings have to be in "Ms base" mode, not in "Satndalone". Is this correct?

installed and found the sensitivity of receiving GPS signal became higher even in door where close to the window...

1. you have to enable the option of "display all" in your file explorer to see subject file

2. you have to use "Resco Explorer" to copy subject file into Windows for overwriting

I hope, this time microsoft or Samsung corrects the driver, and we don't need older ones.

I suppose, there is nothing wrong with i8000 gps hardware. If people having problems, it must be software related.
JB1 Radio ROM, COM4: software port, reduced size buffers and ii2 version gpsidril.dll gave best fixes for me, so for the other i8000 wm6.5 users.

Just curious.... do you think it's possible that on some operator-branded rom the issue has been solved?
I ask 'cause on the very first gps cold fix on my O2 (WM 6.5 rom branded by the italian operator "Wind") I was indoor (close to a window, but indoor nonetheless), cloud covered sky, and it got 7 satellites in 2 minutes max, while on my Omnia 1 (no brand wm 6.1 rom) the first cold fix took me about 15 minutes in the open under a 100% clear sky
