WiFi not working - not an option in connection manager

I don't know if anyone else has encountered this problem but my i920 loses WiFi as an option after activesync security policies are applied even though the policy states enable wifi. I've even tried turning off the wifi in the policy on the server side and it's the same. Other windows mobile devices with the same security policies work fine, just seems to be this phone.

What does seem to work to enable wifi is to static set an IP for the wifi adapter then turn wifi on, then it's an option in connection manager to enable. downside is that if you reset the phone you have to go through the entire process again with setting and enabling wifi.

Anyone seen this or have any ideas?

Do a search for "dissapearing wifi" -- a lot of people are having this problem, and there's multiple threads about it.

AFAIK we still do not know what causes it.

All I can say is that it happened to me ALL the time until recently when I decided to upgrade to Yardi's ROM and I have not installed SK Tools at all.

But -- there are other people who don't even use SKTools and this problem happens to them, so...like I said, we have no idea what causes it at this point.

The only "fix" is to basically do exactly what you're doing -- but there is a program that can do this for you called RStein WifiProfile or something (it's in one of the search results).

I would be interested to know what affect (if any) this new ROM update samsung gave us has on this problem.

Well I tried the samsung update and it still happened, yardi4life's lite ROM with the new updated and still had the wireless problem, but AMDZero's Rom he put out with the new update and wifi is working 100%, AMDZero said he didn't do anything to the wifi settings so he doesn't know what might be different other then the update but his ROM is the only wifi works for me.

Yeah, I think we are going to see tons of reports about this until we find exactly what the cause of the issue is.

I honestly don't think it has anything to do with anyone's roms though.

agreed, it seems that the detection of the wifi isn't done at a certain point. With a hard reset the wifi works, then in my case EVERY time I sync and the policies come down it reboots and then its gone. The setting of the IP seems to flip a switch to make it available and something in that specific ROM accomplished the same thing for me at least so I don't have to "flip the switch".. just wish I could understand what.

I don't use WiFi..

I remembered that the Omnia i910had similar issues.

I did a search at the i910 forum for "disappearing wifi" in the forum search box at the bottom of the page. I came up with several threads by different chefs who have addressed this issue. Rob Storm even had a cab for a fix . Wozzer thought that the programs load to fast Or its a sdk3.5 issue.

I realize that phones differ in many ways but maybe Samsung never really fixed this problem.

Maybe their is somthing there that will help fix the issue???

;) ;)

Found this on 8000 page by PCSPHONE

http://www.modaco.com/content/i8000-verizo...d/#entry1114512

Device(s): Omnia II

Go get WifiProfiles.

Create a new profile

DHCP:YES

Net Adapter: SWLDM201

Enable wifi: Yes

Apply the created profile and your wifi should be back.

I put the load delay in the registry from one recommendation and it didn't help me. I actually read differnt winmo phones having the issue with no definite answer other then hard reset and return to vendor. I'll search for that cab and give it a try, thanks!
