"un-root"

Hi

I asked for it in the rooting guide thread - but recieved no answer. I would like to be able to "un-root" my Desire. That is, with an original ROM. I only recently found out what an RUU is, but such a utility is not yet available for the Desire. Right? I looked for it on HTC's page, but I could only find one for HTC Hero. If it was a Hero that I had rooted, would running that RUU bring the phone entirely back to "normal"?

Because then I could simply wait for them to release an RUU for the Desire.

Thanks. I'll check by tomorrow and see if you've added them (I can't find them right now).

And just to clear up (noticed I might not have been entirely clear in first post), It's not that I've rooted it yet, I just would like to be able to revert... In case of... I dont know

Okay, I've been looking for those files that you mentioned (to unroot) but I can't seem to find them (the search system will only let me search for different words every 20sec). I suppose the main root thread that you speak of is this one?

http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...d-radio-update/

Because I just can't find it anywhere in that thread. Maybe you could just link to it here, in this thread?

Searched the topic http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...er-root-method/, didn't find the files you mentioned. Could you please post a direct link to them?

Looks like i may need to put a simfree Desire back into its unrooted state......is is just a case of following the same procedure for debranding an operator branded handset : http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...r-t-mo-handset/

Any help appreciated

I am really desperate to get the T-Mobile ROM back onto my device so I can return it. The DOA time period is running out. It there any way I can get the T-Mobile rom as an update.zip in a hurry?

If I download the 1.15.110.11 update, which is apparently a patch and not a full rom and apply it to my rooted desire I am guessing it could do some damage?

Any one able to help me out with the standard Tmobile rom I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

I have put mine back to the generic rom as I am returning it. I really would prefer to get my hands on the T-Mobile rom before Wednesday when it is going to be replaced but I can confirm that if you follow the instructions (http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...r-t-mo-handset/)to put the generic rom on it to unroot it is very strait forward.

Let us know if T-Mobile accept it with the Generic Rom installed!

I've put all the stuff from this thread and made a HOWTO available here: Unroot Your HTC Desire

does this seem trustworthy?

http://ineedfile.com/htc-desire-tmobile-ruu

It seems dodgy to me, every time I click on one of those tmobile desire RU links I go to a different page and they all want payment for membership before you can download. I am getting a bit desperate now.

This is the original file and its MD5SUM:

d51566508430cd7edec7c9d4b51b6fd1 RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe

Hopefully others will concur that is the correct md5sum value. :-)

EDIT: Sorry, I thought you meant the generic ROM. This is not the one for T-Mobile.

i've not seen a full t-mobile rom, but the ota update patch is here:

hopefully it might rebrand the browser bookmarks and scenes etc. *shrug*

It makes me very nervous flashing a patch over a different rom. Can anyone confirm that this is OK?

A "patch" is designed to work only with the specific ROM it was intended for. If you have the "generic" ROM installed, then I would definitely *not* try to apply any provider specific patches to it. For example, someone would only apply a t-mobile patch to a t-mobile ROM and both must be specific to each other.

surely the files should be the same. just branded by tmobile ? *shrug*

I know what you mean but...

If it is a patch, will it include the T-Mobile Icons, settings, scene?

It may put the version number right but not change everything back.

I think they'll be really peeved if I swap it out with UPS and they receive a brick.

I am sure I saw somewhere that Paul said he had taken a copy of the T-Mobile Rom (could be wrong) but it was a fine line between waiting too long to arrange the replacement and waiting for a T-Mobile rom to appear. I became a plus member so I didn't feel so guilty and PM'd Paul to ask about this but I guess he gets a lot of PM's. I run a few forums, although not with premium type memberships, and I would ignore me too! Fingers crossed something comes up before zero hour but I guess it'll be a useful experiment to everyone else if I return this with the generic rom.

Does anyone know if there was, at any time, a way to get the generic RUU direct from HTC? If so, I think I'm alright as flashing the generic rom, as supplied by the manufacturer should be fine. However, if this was a leaked rom update it is a slightly different story.

Wanted to say thanks for the guide to generic-ifying/unrooting. However now I'm confused about the fact that some people are saying A2SD aren't really working (internal memory still going down), and the main rooting thread shows A2SD as temporarily offline. Like so many others, my primary reasons for rooting would be market enabler and apps2sd, so I'll probably wait rooting until this gets explained or solved. Would someone mind explaining the situation with A2SD to me?

From what I gather it's very hit and miss at the moment. For some it works, for some it doesn't and for some it messes up their phone!

If you can wait until FroYo which MAY be releasing this month then you can either wait for HTC to release it officially or i'm sure we'll find a root way in the mean time.

Basically your research has given you the correct answer... For some it works, for some it doesn't and for some it messes up their phone! In fairness it works for most but I believe there have been a couple of bricks. I would wait until Paul gets it back online. From what I have read it seems that there is more than one issue. Assuming you get it to work there is still quite a lot of data being stored on the phone, some report this even with davlik cache on the SD card and others report that only a small amount of data remains on the phone in /data/data which has been an issue since G1 rooting.

Paul is obviously concerned enough about something to take it ofline and I would assume that his concern is the bricks.
