Which ROM would you recommend and why?

I'm in a battle with myself, trying to figure out if I like 2.2 enough to use it as my default ROM or if I want to switch back to the Desire ROM, because Sense UI is awesome.

Which ROM are you guys using and why do you prefer them? Keep in mind that I'm using an AT&T 3G branded Nexus One, and using the updated radio that Paul included in the FroYo ROM.

Also note that Google has since announced that the released Froyo build is a test build, and will likely be upgraded for final release.

Thanks guys.

Just wait a little and there will be a 2.2 Desire rom, that's what I'm doing (when I get my Nexus back from being repaired that is!)

That doesn't answer my question of what to use right now, though.

I'm in the minority as I voted for the desire rom, cause I like sense. plus I'm an old buggar so have the patience to wait for Roms to be released and and issues ironed out! :D

Definitely the Desire ROM for myself. I installed the Froyo 2.2 update and it's great and all but i'm spoiled w/the Sense UI. For me reverting back to stock is dull and boring(but that's just my preference). However, once Paul has the 2.2 Desire ROM up and going i'll definitely head on over to it though. So once again for my taste and lifestyle the Desire ROM is a must have and use it as my primary ROM daily. There's pros & cons w/every ROM and no device is perfect yet the N1 is sure near perfect for me especially coming over from the iPhoney! Apple SUX...Android RULEZ!!!

I agree 100%, hopefully I can have my Nexus back by Friday. LOL

I am going to install Froyo when I get it back just to try it out and to update the radio but the Desire ROM already has most of what 2.2 has since it seems like they just took suggestions from everything listed on MoDaCo and Cyanogen and implemented them. What does Froyo really add that the Desire ROM does not already have?

http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.2-highlights.html

The only major thing is slightly better exchange support, which I personally no longer need since switching to Google Apps to host my company email, and the ability to use the LED as a video light. The ability to voice dial via bluetooth is a + but does not affect me since I don't use a bluetooth headset and my car stereo can do voice dialing for me when connected via BT.

There is also the faster DALVIC JIT, browser etc., but I can wait on that, the custom ROMS are already so much faster than stock 2.1 that FROYO just catches up to custom ROM speeds.

I am really hoping that the Desire ROM can eventually use the LED for video as well. I believe you also loose the "H" in the signal bar with stock FROYO and only get 3G indicator which is a really minor point but drives me nuts not knowing what type of network I am currently utilizing.

I guess it really comes down to SENSE, I really like it and am even willing to deal with it taking me about 2-3 minutes to correctly connect the phone to my car's bluetooth system for hands free and for streaming audio. Once the bluetooth issue is resolved there will be no going back for me unless the 2.2 release really blows my mind away.

I love the Desire ROM, but I really just can't stand how laggy the messaging application is. They also made tiny improvements to the keyboard in 2.2 and it's now SO much more accurate. To the point where I'm typing faster than I ever did on my iPhone.

I don't find the messaging application to be laggy anymore in R22, but I use Hancent anyway, IMHO it is much better.

Swype is the way to go as far as keyboards are concerned, now that I am used to it I am able to type as fast or faster than on a full size computer keyboard.

two big words. "FLASH VIDEO"

Maybe you guys didn't get froyo working properly.

But the apps2sd Bluetooth dialing. Increased overall speed

Better battery life. Nicer market.

2.2 isn't 2.1 for a reason lol. Because its better.

Don't be scared of the future guys.

I will admit I was using sense and prefered it over anything else until froyo came out

there are just too many good things about it.

Ill never go back unless 2.2 sense is just as good. Then I might prefer htc sense 2.2 over Google 2.2

FroYo, aside from Flash and the speed boost, has a LOT of little improvement throughout. SenseUI is pretty and polished but it doesn't increase my functionality more than FroYo.

FroYo > Eclair SenseUI

When a SenseUI FroYo ROM comes out I will probably run that

See, I found Handcent to be even worse than the normal messaging application. Weird.

Handcent is laggier, but it has more features...

I've tried the Sense UI ROMs up until Alpha 19.

I love Sense, but an Alpha hacked ROM just got a little tiring.

Also, I really loathe the Contacts from HTC vs. stock Android and was too lazy to use the kitchen to cook up a variation.

I loved the Cyanogen Mod quite a bit -- I especially miss the trackball wake-up, different color notifications, and full 360 orientation rotation and WiFi tethering. I shared my T-Mobile signal with a buddy when his iPhone got zilch at a major LA intersection!

But I really dig FroYo. The speed is noticable. The WiFi tethering is even better than the old Cyanogen Mod I was using before, and there are lots of little touches and updates througout the OS.

When the Sense goes to Beta or a full version, I might be tempted to try it again. When Cyanogen comes out with a FroYo mod, I'll install whatever first stable version is released.

Oh, and the shortcuts in this forum for installing FroYo from any custom ROM really were a Godsend.

I was really missing Sense cause of the dialing and keyboard... but then I installed Dialer One and the HTC keyboard and I'm happy again!

When 2.2 Sense is made I'll go back to Sense for sure, but for now Froyo is just too good to go back to 2.1

I love Sense UI as well. But I was getting heaps of glitches and hangs when using it. Moved to 2.2 and it's silky smooth. It's awesome!

I TOTALLY AGREE!!

I mean Froyo is not yet perfect (a small freeze just after i've hit the home button :( ) but it not far from it!

But it is way more functional than htc sense 2.1, at least the ported on N1 one!

LauncherPro Beta, Dialer One, and HTC Keyboard n can be very useful for those who miss HTC sense.

Killer, I expect the small lag that appears almost randomly will not be present in the official release.

Yeah Dialer One is great, but I like the new call log grouping and the phone button on the launcher doesn't let you pick what app to launch!

Sense is great but the bluetooth is a huge problem in Paul's Desire port. Just because of that Im not using it. Cyanogen 5.0.7.1 or Paul's Froyo.

I love Desire. I'm specially missing using multiple profiles for work, fun and so on. Desire applications are really nice, but taking into count the new Froyo features and since the current Desire port is still not stable and full featured (bt issues), right now I'm using Froyo. I'm definably waiting patiently for a full blown Desire port and then I'll reevaluate.

What I'm sure is that when Desire is available on 2.2 most people will jump to that ROM

r u sure?

Cyanogen's mod is the most popular, well-supported mod out there. 5.06 is ultra-stable, 5.07.1 is working perfectly for me. Him and his cronies will put out CM 6.0 as soon as they can once the 2.2 source code is released. I'll be interested to see how apps2sd migration is handled, but the main thing is I don't want to mess with re-syncing my contacts again!
