I've picked up my Streak, and i'll dump my findings here over the next few days! :(

If you have questions, ask below and i'll answer in due course! :(

Favourite thing so far...

Feels very fast, has bags of spare storage (1.5GB free internally) and lots of RAM (reporting 408MB total)
    • No microUSB connector (proprietary)

      • Plastic finish but well constructed
      • Thin!
      • Very nice screen that is very touch responsive
      • Battery cover feels sturdy to me
      • No microUSB! Proprietary cable.
      • 2GB onboard, 16GB microSD included in box
      • Dual cameras, can take front facing shots using inbuilt software. Could be good for Fring?
      • Main 5MP cam has dual LED flash
      • Dedicated camera button
      • 3.5mm jack is nice...
      • Very similar in look and size to the Archos 5 Internet Tablet
      • Front buttons (back, menu, home) are touch capacitive and backlit
      • 1530mAh battery
      • Rear cover must be in place to boot normally. Is VERY stiff (no movement when in place at all)
      • Software

          [*]Android 1.6

[*]Very customised UI, one of the most customised uses of Android imho

[*]Replacement keyboard, complete with numeric pad (pics to follow)

[*]Replacement launcher, ADW launcher works tho

[*]Google Maps Navigation easy to download and install from the market

[*]Vibration disabled out of box on keyboard

[*]Auto brightness disabled out of box

          [*]2.6.29 kernel

[*]Build number 3883 on my unit

[*]Support for OTA updates - links to http://mobileupdate.dell.com/UpToDate/UpToDate.html

[*]1.5GB of internal storage free (on /data)! No A2SD needed here for most!

[*]Some sort of Facebook / Twitter integration built in

          [*]Exchange support via Touchdown

          [*]Nuance Voice Control

[*]Voice Search included which enables Google Maps Navigation support for speaking destinations

          [*]Amazon MP3 store (1.5) preloaded

          [*]Customised Camera and Photos apps

          [*]Max video capture res 640x480

[*]Can also take VGA video with front camera (if you're into that sort of thing!)

[*]Support for mass storage or MTP protocol

[*]ADB works out of the box on Mac after enabling in Application->Development

          [*]mkbootimg base address - 0x20000000

[*]Total memory reported by busybox - 408496!

          [*]MTD partitions - mtd0: 00500000 00020000 "boot", mtd1: "recovery", mtd2: "recovery_bak", mtd3: "LogFilter", mtd4: "oem_log", mtd5: "splash", mtd6: "system", mtd7: "userdata",

[*]Fastboot - power on with camera held down (doesn't need back cover on)

          [*]139MB free on /system!

          [*]Interesting internal mappings - /dev/block/innersd0p5 is a 236MB /cache (!) and /dev/block/innersd0p6 is the 1.6GB /data

[*]Build is not odexed (no real issue when you have so much space!)

[*]Various O2 brandings, primarily backgrounds and boot screen, non intrusive

[*]There's an FM Radio apk in /system/app, but I see no icon?

[*]Linpack score averaging 4.2, Quadrant benchmark doesn't seem to run

          [*]Interesting secret screen - details

Hi Paul. (Long time no see!)

Would you consider it too large for carrying about as a solo device, to replace, say, a 3GS?

Cheers for that. I'll bite my tongue and go visit those muppets at O2 then. I've quite small hands, so hopefully won't look too large.

Still tossing up between the Desire and the Streak. Reckon it'll take 2.x?

I should have had mine today, but O2 messed up and i only got the SIM! Very annoyed..

How does it handle movies? Is The 30ms audio delay that seems to bug HTCs snapdragon devices present?

Can you install Linpack and Quadrant from the market and give benchmarks?

Feels very nippy, as I have added to the first post, busybox is reporting 408MB RAM available, which is second to none I think!

Hi Paul, thanks for the news :(

Does it have a Facebook integration in Contacts app like Sense?

What do u think about the potential for development?

And most important question, do u think O2 will unlock it for u? :(

Not yet, i'll phone them Monday...

P

I was speaking to someone who has contacts at the technical level in CPW she is going to try and get the code for me, if I do get it i'll send it on to ya.

Really want this as my solo device but have a long Orange contract and tbh I find O2 a bit s*** as a network.

Anyway, if you get joy with unlocking it let us know fella in the meantime I'm going to create a draft ebay page for selling my N1 :-)
