What you need for flashing this phone.

ODIN 3 version 1.0 (flashprogram)

.PIT file (bootfile of the phone)

Phone.

USB cable.

What is the download mode of this phone?

Volume-down + Home key + Switching-on

Lets start.

1. Take ODIN.

2. Load ODIN with the flash files and .PIT file. (Use PDA if you have one file inside the firmware)

3. Take your phone.

4. Take out memorycard and simcard.

5. Now get your mobile and hold this: Volume-down + Home key + Switching-on (This is the download mode of the Samsung Galaxy S I9000.)

6. Take your USB cable.

7. Plug him in your pc and mobile.

8. Wait for 30 seconds.

9. If your pc installed the drivers you can put on START by odin.

10. After the flash your phone will be BOOT. Your flash is now 100% successful.

Remember you have to install the latest PC studio for the latest drivers!

Remember you phone must be simlock FREE!

On www.samsung-firmwares.com are only official firmwares!

Do you have any kind of changelog for the firmwares? Seems kinda strange that the GS has 9 different european firmwares, and yet has just been released!

I'm really new to this... Sorry if this question is so dumb. Flashing these ROM's mean you get root/su access to the kernal? or what is exactly mean by flashing?

Flashing is the phone equivalent of re-formatting your computer with a new/updated operating system.

There is an important point which is missing from the guide in post 1 and if you don't do this the phone will stay stuck when booting on the Samsung splash screen:

before starting the procedure in Odin, you have to flag the voice "RE PARTITION" in the options.

I got stuck there today and did the procedure over and over with no success. Then I ticked that box and magically it worked.

Can firmwares be flashed with a Mac? I see Odin is only available for Windows. Any help is appreciated.

The procedure didn't even start. You can unplug, turn off and restart. And the fact that you have ticked that button has nothing to do with this situation. If you don't trust me un-tick it and then try again. Let us know if you succeed.

while phone is off and disconnected : run odin and check the right choices

then enter download mode in phone and connect

when identified in odin press start - should respond quickly

all that assuming newest drives installed

if not and u r on 64bit

try in 32 bit machine

I'm on windows 7 x64 and when I start to flash it again, it starts and then after a while the phone itself powers off (about 30 seconds) Starting the phone shows a mobile and connection logo. Looks like the damn thing is semi bricked?!

I've tried everything for the last few hours and at least I can still get into the download mode. How to enter the recovery? I think i need to recover everything and hopefully fix it. Otherwise what are my options then?

Cause if you don't at least ONCE the phone won't boot. Here in Italy they don't work and considering these phones come from UK my 2 cents are that we're all in the same situation.

Just downloaded it but this time there are 3 .tar files in it.

Do we flash all 3 and also i take it the CODE_I9000XWJFB.tar file goes under PDA.

What about MODEM_I9000XXJF5.tar which have the modem.bin file in it.

It was in tje same .tar file as the rest when i flashed XXJF2 earlier today.

No haven't tried to update yet.

If we go by the earlier firmware the CODE file goes in the PDA field but not sure sadly.

Edit: right got XXJF5 flashed.

CODE file in PDA field

MODEM File in PHONE field

CSC file in CSC field.

Though the default language when booting it up isn't english but easy enough to change if you can remember where the language settings are in android ;)

Version from *#1234# says:

PDA: I9000XWJFB

PHONE: I9000XXJF5

CSC: I9000SERJF3

CODE = PDA.

MODEM = PHONE.

CSC = CSC.

You don't need CSC with android phones this is for APN stuff.

I wasn't able to flash with just using PDA = CODE file and instead used all three as above and it worked for me. :-) Just testing now !
