I decided to root after successfully debranding. I followed the guide here http://theunlockr.co...the-htc-desire/
I followed the guide step by step right up to 8. Now you should see a custom recovery screen, using the optical trackpad navigate to Wipe and push on the trackpad to select it. Then navigate to Wipe data/factory reset and select that.
Got to step 9 . Once that is done, push volume down to go back to the main menu and select Flash zip from sdcard and select the rootedupdate.zip file and wait for it to flash. All done, you have root access and can use any root required app! Enjoy!
However, my volume key wasn't responding and I kept pressing it up and down to try and get it to respond and in the process managed to press the trackpad, causing the phone to boot up. I hadn't managed to flash the zip.
So, me being me, figured that I should go back into recovery and try there, only way I could get the screen back up to flash the zip was to repeat the process, I only repeated step 2, got the screen up and selected flash zip.
That all finished and I booted the phone, well, I tried but it's stuck in a loop, won't boot. Completely stuck in the boot sequence now.
I have been trying all day to figure out how to do this, finally plucked up courage and manage to mess it up.
I am thinking maybe start the whole process again from start to finish but before I do, can anybody advise me as to whether this is the way to go or is there another way around it?
Any help would be so much appreciated, I've got myself so upset about this, I'm not usually this dumb, honest.
Thank you in advance to anybody who would be kind enough to help me through this.

I have since put the micro sd into my laptop to delete a back up file that was on there (I had forgotten and wondered if that might have had an effect on the rooting process). All that was on the card were the zip file downloaded for rooting, the back up file and some empty folders. I deleted the empty folders and my back up file.
All that is left on the card now is rootedupdate.zip. I see no img file for the goldcard I created, should that be visible?
I am desperate here, I am completely stuck and would so much appreciate if somebody can tell me what I need to do to get my phone working again.
I'm afraid this is a cross post as I posted on the thread where I was pointed in the direction of the guide but have had no response so far and this is quite urgent as I have no phone cos it won't boot.
PLEASE, I am begging for some help.

Now I've made matters even worse, I decided to format the micro sd and start from scratch but can't can I cos the phone won't boot in order re create the goldcard. Well, I have the goldcard img which I have now transferred to the sd card but that's no good is it.
Do I resign myself to the fact I have a phone that's beyond repair??
