Is there a way to hard reset the Galaxy S when system cannot startup?

Volume down and power does not work, no menu is displayed...

try Power+home+volue up -> takes you to recovery mode

guys any lucky on doing this?

I click on wipe data/factor yreset and ten click yes all data... but this only brings force closes for me.. it does not make everything 'factory' fresh

same with wiping caache partition...

is there a way to get back proper factory settings?
