Evenin' all,had a ruff couple of days with my Hero

upgraded to ver 5 Android 2.1 and everything went fine

rebooted and my Sim started playing up.........

cut to the chase:- i went into Vodaphone shop and they replaced my sim card and i left the Hero overnight to charge and connect to the network.

today i revisited Vodaphone and i still had the no network prob, the bloke in the shop asked me where i'd purchased the 'phone oh! no! ....he checked on Orange and yep it's been blacklisted. buggery!

spent the afternoon onto Fleabay and Orange.....no dice from Orange - they want the original receipt

Fleabay are very sorry ,but i am outside their 45 days dispute period and cannot help.

i have emailed the seller on Fleabay but don't expect a reply.

i guess this is quite a common problem ,but when it hit's YOU it's not very nice!.

unless any of you have any bright ideas my Hero will be a lovely doorstop for the forseeable future.........i have resisted bouncing it offa the nearest wall :)

Blacklisted? Why would they do that? And how? And who? Orange?

Forgive my lack of knowledge on this: I've never heard of a blacklisted phone before. I'm curious.

And can you just change carrier?

Phone reorted as lost or stolen most probably.

As the phones been stolen its probably worth reporting it to the police and passing them any contact details you have for the seller.

My guess is they will do nothing about it, but it's possible you might get lucky.

You won't get your cash back most likely but at least you'd be flagging that seller if they do it again and someone else reports it.

However before you do that.. is the phone unlocked or are you using a rebel sim?

Whats the message that you are getting?

the phone is unlocked and using my Vodaphone sim the phone says "limited use-emergency calls only"

complete pain the $ss this carry on........

no reply from the Ebay seller via email or phone..........surprise NOT!.

went to look at the Desire today ,but it's a big fugly thing.

i'm looking at the Desire,Legend or another Hero.

i'm off to Turkey this month,so might get a shop there to have a look at it or sell it there

no doubt there are ways of unblocking the Hero, but i really don't want to do any "Porridge" just for a mobile phone!!

:)

You most probably bought a stolen phone off Ebay. And it's now blocked since the original owner reported it stolen. And you are planning to re-sell it?

Not a very bright idea imho. If your story is true return the phone to the phone operator and they can return it to the original owner. Perhaps you'll get a reward for your troubles, or at least you'll get a clean conscience.

I agree with Paaland. Conscience aside, it is an offence to possess stolen goods (at least here in Australia). If it's the same where you live, you are obliged to inform the police that you possess stolen goods. If you don't, you'll be slapped with theft.

Report the seller to the Police and get an incident number. Contact eBay with the incident number and if you've used PayPal to pay for it, contact them too.

With any luck, you will get a refund from PayPal, eBay will close down this guys account and his telephone provider will charge him for the new phone on his next bill.

Ebay is very good for buyers, just tell them and if you paid by paypal, they will refund you. A colleague of mine once bought a laptop that was locked, turns out it was stolen from a school. The school got the laptop back, my colleague got a full refund, the seller got arrested.
