Guest Paul
Welcome to 'Paul's App of the Day', where I pick one of my favourite apps as featured app of the day! Today's app is... Awesome Drop What they sayDrag and drop files to your phone through your web browser. No account required! Just drag files into the box on the web page and they sync to your phone. Sync music, sync photos, sync documents, sync videos Awesome Drop uses HTML5 features of web browsers (FireFox 3.6, Chrome 5 & Safari 5) to sync files to your phone. What we say New from Dashwire Labs, Awesome Drop feels a little bit like a 'version 1' release but that doesn't really make it any less awesome! It's interface and operation are very straightforward. Run app on phone. Open website. Input 4 digit code from website, drop files onto website, files appear on phone. Simple as that! If you want to get files onto your phone quickly and easily without using cables, this is the easiest way to do it! Permissions INTERNET / READ_PHONE_STATE Download View Awesome Drop at AppBrain QRcode To use, install 'Barcode Scanner' from the Android Market. Price FREE (We like that! :D) Market star rating at time of writing 4.72 (82 ratings) Version at time of writing 1.0.10 Similar / Alternative appsDropbox, SugarSync and Zumodrive are similar sync based apps, but with an emphasis on 'ongoing sync' rather than 'file drops'. Suggested improvements for the next version Now that the concept is proved, it'd be good to fatten out the application a bit. Provides options on where files are dropped, persist a 'partnership' better so that the code doesn't have to be input each time, implement smart compression (if this isn't already enabled) and allow the app to be 'always waiting' in the background. Great app though already, hence the PAotD recommendation! Have your say Fan of Awesome Drop? Found something better? Just wanna share your experiences? Post below!
Guest brackehill_mob
Seems a bit long winded to me. SwiFTP is a much better idea - your own FTP server on your phone (link).

Yeah, that's all very well as long as you're connected via WiFi to the same network as a PC with a FTP client... P
Guest stueeee
I really like the idea in this post using an app called "setting profiles" and an ftp server: http://www.kryogenix.org/days/2010/03/03/b...er-wifi-at-home Thanks Paul - Awesome drop looks handy too... Guest kupo
Sounds a lot like Dropbox, which has an awesome Android client (but uses a dedicated app, not a website). It doesn't sync files to the phone though, just keeps them in the cloud until you download them.
