Bought this phone, mistakenly thinking it would work on US 3g, but it does not :( The phone's quad-band on voice, but I think for data you're either AT&T or T-Mobile on the 3G bands, not both. AT&T uses 850/1900mhz, and T-Mo uses 2100mhz for data. I'm not sure which they use in Europe. I have a Singapore i9000 working on AT&T here in the US with full 3G service. I'm getting 2.0+Mbits per second with it. I am using the Euro firmware, so that's not an issue, the radio is the same. Which carrier are you trying to use it on in the US? If it's EDGE only on T-Mo, you'll probably need an AT&T SIM for 3G. Also, just in case you missed the obvious, you don't have 2G networks only checked in the settings for the phone...? Anyways, flashing a different radio won't help you if the hardware chip doesn't support the frequencies you need for your carrier. P.S. - I almost wish my i9000 was on the T-Mobile band. I always thought most phones are quad band in the GSM, but not in the wcdma. I read the thread you linked and there seem to be many more saying "doesn't work" than "does". I wonder if the ones saying it does work on 850 are actually getting GSM 850 and not noticing. I almost posted there I had 850mhz, but then I noticed it was GSM. For what it's worth in the discussion, if I put my T-MobileUSA SIM card in my i9000, then force the phone to use wcdma 2100, I get no service. If I select all bands, it locks in with GSM 1900. I'll have to play in other areas where I know the T-Mobile 3G service is more reliable - my Nexus One gets a weaker/slower T-Mo 3G here, so maybe it's not a fair place to test with the i9000. @kilack, can I ask what provider and what area you are in? So people get excited now if someone says something like oh it works just enable it... unfortunately its usually false alarms... I'm actually way down under in New Zealand, but we have a carrier here on 850 3g and another carrier that uses 900/2100 3g. I'd love to be able to have 850 too because it obviously allows me a choice of carriers and also 850 is used in quite a few places around the globe and in one country that I actually travel quite a bit too.. but looks like its not to be.. I wish quad band would become standard.... the world is a small place these days and people travel lots, seems they just cut any corner they can to save a few dollars.. One thing that the iphone got right, making it quad band and international. +1 The iPhone's quad band apparently doesn't include AWS 1700/2100, which is what T-Mobile here in the states is. Looks like the i9000 (at least the one I have) is the same way; whether it's quad band or not, it doesn't have the radio to work on T-Mobile, which is a shame. T-Mobile doesn't cover a lot of territory, but in the areas that they offer 3G, it's the best/fastest out there. My Nexus One on T-Mo consistently scores 25% or more better on download speed tests than my iPhone 4 and i9000 on AT&T. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

T-mobile uses a different band so maybe that is the problem? Yes, that's correct. My i9000 is AT&T SIM. Works great. It will work on T-Mo, but only on voice and EDGE data.
