Unlocking HTC Desire from T-Mobile UK

Hi,

Has anyone had success with unlocking a HTC Desire from T-Mobile UK - especially one bought recently? I have a unit I got in very early July. Since then I've no luck in getting an outfit to unlock it. I've tried 3 websites/systems so far and I must say, they've all been pretty bad. A combination of A) Can't unlock this device (no code, or wrong code) and Customer Service, or lack of... Wow... There must be an opening in the market for a real business here, surely.

So far I've tried:

unlock-desire.com (unlocking online)

Looked like a reasonably well done website, so tried them first. Quick to take my money and had a 5-30 mins estimation. A couple of days (and emails later) I finally get a refund due to inability to provide a code

so then I try (due to being a sticky post on Modaco, must be ok right?):

HTCCODE

I'm immediately suspicious when I have to download an application for submission of IMEI and (supposed) retrieval of the unlock code. My virus checker was wary of this too and took "minutes" to release the file. After a few attempts and no code available, I start emailing support. To their credit, they were fast at responding. Reason for no code is the IMEI isnt "in the database" and best idea is to wait for a database update happening soon. So I wait a week or 2, try again and still no luck, so eventually manage to get a refund.

Next up I try:

HTCSimUnlock

This crew were quite fast at providing me a code, maybe less than an hour. Tried it 2 times (2nd time being verrry sure to put the right code in). It doesnt work. Getting pretty angry at the whole thing by this point so email for a refund. After 3 email attempts, 2 weeks and not a single non-auto-response reply, I've cutting my losses

I've now had this Desire for over a month and can't do anything with it that involves a SIM card - so WiFi only! I did have a borrowed T-Mobile SIM in it but as there is no data plan on that account, it racked up the £££ extremely fast with minimal usage (after coming from a Blackberry where things are compressed)

So, any suggestions people? Very frustrated!

Phone T-Mobile and tell them that you intend to take the phone abroad and need to have it unlocked. They will charge you for the unlock code, and it takes up to a week, but they will provide it for you.

Thanks, I might try that, but I can't put that cost on an account or whatever, so I guess I have to hope they take credit card information?

Hiya

I have pretty much the same problem, only that I went abroad to Switzerland and can't unlock my HTC Desire from O2 UK. I bought it last weekend and I even asked them if it was unlocked, as I paid the full price in the O2 UK store. That lady was obviously not well informed, so when I tried to put my Swiss SIM card in, it said it was locked.

I phoned customer support and also the store and then customer support again. They said they could under no circumstances give me an unlock code before I had it for 12 months. I spent probably about 2 hrs on the phone today and yesterday and I'm seriously wanting to throw the phone out of the window by now.

That I moved to Switzerland didn't help. Now I have a rather expensive brick here. I also tried a few unlocking sites without success.

I'm very annoyed and desperate now as I won't be back in the UK very soon to give the phone back.

My IMEI starts with 35383304.... and I would be very grateful if someone could help :D

Not sure I'd trust that, to get a refund there you have to provide a video that it didn't work. How am I gonna do that?

There must be some other way than paying some random stranger on ebay 20 pounds without being sure it works.

The amount of money I used to try to unlock this HTC Desire I could have bought a new iphone 4 for it.

Plus dealing with the O2 customer support, is all very frustrating.
