Just use Unrevoked if you're struggling mate...as stated in another post I replied to... Once you've used Unrevoked..., you will have had Clockwork Mod installed so should be able to boot into the recovery menu (hold power down whilst powering on), select to update from sdcard and just select the rom, no need to call it update, keep the same name.

Make sure you backup before doing anything though.

Check out unlockr.com too although this rooting method is the old school long way round gold card route.
BashyUK, I've already looked up Unrevoked among other rooting methods but could not decide which route to take... Will try soon, thanks for clearing things up for me!
The main reason for rooting for me is the Desire's small memory. Can you suggest a ROM I should use for max reliability?
And should I choose A2SD or A2SD+ or is there a better method to move apps to SD? Cheers!

If memory is the main reason then you've definitely made the right choice in rooting and more so using unrevoked because of It's simplicity  As for which of the two methods each has It's supporters so I'd read around on here but in particular the xda developers forum and then decide. I went for + purely based on it being the newer method. Works great for me,  have 100+ mb free when it was 7!

As for which ROM, well if you want to still play around with Sense and have a stable ROM then this thread is the one. If you want Sense but are willing to take a risk use r9 wip. If you really want a different experience look at Cyanogen although I haven't personally... am not much newer to the scene than yourself.

OK, got it at unrevoked.com (3), updated hboot for windows, ran this and now I see Modaco.com and Logo  just below the quietly brilliant slogan
Thanks for the help, wsn't that hard... one magic word... unrevoked

**update: Celebrations were too early, unrevoked seems OK but the My Rom Pie is sour
- gmail, market and other shortcuts lead to home
- camera and camcorder can't record (can't understand if a2sd+ is good to go or bad)

Will try and cook something tastier tomorrow morning, any recommended recipes? Thanks

To check if a2sd+ is good,  dl quick system info from the market and see if anything is reported in the relevant section. If not It's not good. If It's not good make sure you partitioned as required. If you didn't partition then let ROM manager do it for you. There is plenty of info around the site on this.

I'd use pre baked if I was you before cooking. Then do some more research and cook once you've figured the basics.

Enjoy.

Any known patches for that? I don't think the problem is with the rom nor unrevoked

Forget about unrevoked, it;s done it's thing as you are able to put ROM's on.

As for the market etc, I meant they were down in general as in they weren't working for me for a period of time this morning either. Check it now all the services inc. gmail are up and running. If it's still not working, then I can only suggest you do a full wipe and re-flash the ROM.

Hi everybody!!

I have a probleme but I think it will be easy for you solve it

I have a HTC desire with baked rom R8. I need to edit build.prop from /system but I cannot...
I tried several things but I cannot... I tried:
- Edit file with Root Explorer application but when phone restarts, changes don't stay,
- push new build.prop with adb push command, but I have read only file system error, so I remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system with r/w permissions but after it, I have directory is not empty error,
- Open rom archive, edit build.prop and flash with new archive but it detects, that I edited build.prop, in verifying step when flash from Zip!

I need to change one line : ro.product.brand value to "orange_fr-b2b" in order to run application (tv d'orange checks this value...).
Somebody have an issue, or idea?

Thanks for helping

Hi!

Somebody have idea to help me??
I try an other thing:
I reboot phone into recovery mode and do an adb push. The push command seems to work (some kb tranfered) but when I restart the phone (with adb reboot) -> there is no change...

To sum up my problem: I want to edit build.prop into system directory...

Thanks :)

Strange, I have rebooted into (clockworkmod) recovery before, mounted /system from the menu in that and then edited stuff via adb shell before and I'm sure it has stuck.

Thanks, This seems to worked, I've wiped out everything started clean and the Rom Woeks, The only thing that doesn't is the a2sd, I've partitioned using Rom manager but this doesn't seem to catch

Since i added the R8 release, i have no Last.fm Widget, anyone else with this problem?

I've downloaded Last.fm from the market, and it installs the program, i can use the App shortcut, but one of my favourite things about it was the widget, but there is no option to add the widget in my widget menu.

Any ideas?

You only have 2 choices, they don't mix:

1. Do not customise your phone, keep it standard , keep your warranty and apply the system software updates when received.
2. Customise using ROMs such as MoDaCo etc which means you can't use system updates (and also lose warranty). These updates are provided in each full ROM release. As you can see from the forum, R9 is still WIP but does include updates released so far. I'd advise you to stick to R8 for now until R9 is full release to avoid issues for yourself. Or, if you want to retain your warranty, reverse everything you've done including rooting...

***Final Update for now (hopefully)

Everything worked, fought with the a2sd for an hour or so, didn't make it and then found a new wat of making apps to be saved on the sd card on froyo 2.2 using the android sdk (I felt like a real dev for 5 minutes) :

http://sefanboy.com/...ard-by-default/ - This works very good and I'm happy :)

Arabic support seems necessary.
Did it add to MCR yet?
