Remember the Huawei S7 tablet? I don't know if the device has ever been made available but the firmware is now on their website. It's unlikely to be of any real use to us but, on the off-chance that anyone wants to pull it apart and dissect, here is the link...

Huawei S7 V100R001C01B01hSP21 (Austria Mobilkom) firmware: http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/down...C01B01hSP21.zip

Interestingly, it includes an upgrade guide which describes how the firmware 'updata.app' files are put together. But unfortunately it doesn't provide the tools used for generating the CRCs. Apparently the process goes something like this:

4. Package-making script description

Package-making script example(e.g.: make_S70_apps_nonsec.cmd)

1. Eliminate old upgrade package

@if exist dload\updata.app del /f /a dload\updata.app

2. Calculate CRC of all files

..\tools\CRCgen -ibin BINs\header\boothd.img BINs\boot.img BINs\header\systemhd.img BINs\system.img BINs\header\userdatahd.img BINs\userdata.img BINs\header\recoveryhd.img BINs\recovery.img -o crc.mbn

3. Making CRC files into a package module

..\tools\bin2app -F -iBin crc.mbn addr0xF4000000 seccode0x48575538323230FF descinput -o crc_v.bin descHUAWEI_U8220_CRC_BEIJING

4. Making boothd.img into a package module

..\tools\bin2app -F -iBin BINs\header\boothd.img addr0xF5000000 seccode0x48575538323230FF descinput -o boothd_v.bin descHUAWEI_U8220_CRC_BEIJING

5. Making boot.img into a module

..\tools\bin2app -F -iBin BINs\boot.img addr0x30000000 seccode0x48575538323230FF descinput -o boot_v.bin descHUAWEI_U8220_CRC_BEIJING

6. Making CRC module and boothd.img module into a package together, creating a temporary file temp13.bin

..\tools\bin2app -F -iAPP crc_v.bin boothd_v.bin -o temp13.bin descHUAWEI_U8220_BEIJING

7. Making temporary files temp14.bin and boot.img together,creating temporary file temp14.bin

..\tools\bin2app -F -iAPP temp13.bin boot_v.bin -o temp14.bin descHUAWEI_U8220_BEIJING

8. Repeat the same operation as step 4 to 7,making system, userdata and recovery together, finally creating dload\UPDATA.APP.

..\tools\bin2app -F -iAPP temp19.bin recovery_v.bin dload/updata.app descHUAWEI_U8220_BEIJING

I'm downloading this because I'm interested that the guide says "descHUAWEI_U8220_BEIJING" unless they are just copying the information from the U8220 guide?

Yeah, it's odd they've re-used whatever that is from the U8220 but the firmware is definitely intended for a 800x480 snapdragon tablet.

It's been released here in Norway for atleast a week now, bought two of them last friday.

Hope there will be a recovery image for them though, as the built in storage (not counting the built in 8gb sd-card) is far too small, and I'm not comfortable running apps2sd on it before it can be recovered from a broken/missconfigured rom.

Ok, i have the tablet, extremely excited bout it, fast, neat, handy in usage, even as a city guide, battery holds it out almost an entire day on navi/ layar etc, yet i had one bug with the market giving me an android.proces.media fail everytime i tryed to dl an app, and i had to retry bout 5-10 times till it would finally download it, so i did the A1 firmware swap using the above mentioned link and now i dont have sound anymore, yet market isnt crashing anymore (all the time..still gives dl failed couple of times till it downloads app) and all the rest works as far as i can tell..

Can u please help me out? Havent found this download looking on the huawei site though, how/ where have you searched for it, maybe you can find the original firmware plz

If it helps, here are the various S7 firmwares on their site. Use them at your own risk. I haven't downloaded them so I don't know what the differences are. Some were never listed on their website (not sure why) but they can be discovered. The most recent ones are likely to be at the bottom.

S7V100R001C01B01hSP21(Austria Mobilkom)

S7V100R001C03B015SP02(Bulgaria+Mtel)

S7V100R001C01

S7V100R001C13B020SP01(Australia)

S7V100R001C01B026SP07(Croatia)

S7V100R001C01B020

S7V100R001C03B013

I think Paul has a S7. He briefly showed it whilst comparing various tablets against the Galaxy Tab http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFmQ7Ajkyjw, so maybe he'll cook some roms for it someday. If he ever finds the time.

Thanks a bunch, ill try em asap. after checking out the tablet yesterday i figured out it still has the market problem even in the A1 rom version, only it doesnt give the android.proces.media error anymore, market just sez dload failed and after 4-5 tries it gets the soft, or says halfway download paused.. hope its not hardware prob.

Anyhow 100000000000000000000000x thanks, youre my hero man :)

if Paul is interested in cooking, something stable and n337 im ready to pay if its reasonable..

By the way, the SP21 worked for me, all hardware works and i dont even mind yet the A1 wayfinder, parking thingy or the A1 music app (yet) :)

thanks again, i luv my smakit once again :(

Just a quick head's up:

Huawei Norway announced a few days ago that Froyo will be made available for the S7 in 1st Quarter 2011.

Hopefully we will see a custom Rom with A2SD sooner than that, but if not there's at least light in the end of the tunnel for us struggling with the system memory shortage on this device (Froyo lets you move apps to SD as you probably all know...)

~Christopher

PS. Universal Androot gives you root on the S7, and I recommend LauncherPro and RockPlayer - and be aware that it has 8GB of internal storage called "SDCARD", so if you pop in a MicroSD this is called "SDCARD2"

they announced froyo first quarter next year if i remmeber well, till then im stuck with the boring A1 boot logo and the Mobile parking and a1music icons..

do you have the conductive or resistive screen version btw?

How did you do your "discovery", any newer files there?

The way to discover them is basically this: Every download on the Huawei website is referenced by a number (the fileName parameter in the URL). Increment that number and you get a different file. So I just keep incrementing it to discover what's there. They support a LOT of products so there are thousands of updates, most of which are irrelevant to their Android devices. I setup a script to do it when we were eagerly awaiting their Android 2.1 U8220 firmware and I still run it occasionally because it's easier than trying to navigate their website to find updates.

What are general forum views on the tablet. Expansys are selling it for £249.99 http://www.expansys.com/huawei-s7-android-...h-screen-199911. Worth it or are there better tablets out there ?

There are definitely far better tablets out there. The S7 has a resistive screen, so that sucks.

The Advent Vega might be a better choice (currently £250) but it depends on your requirements. If you want a 3G sim card capability then perhaps the Samung Galaxy Tab (currently £399.99). There are a few others so worth looking around but I would ignore the S7. I'm hoping there will be a wider range of Android tablets soon. I really want to buy one but nothing stands out as being perfect yet IMO.

Believe it or not I have Bin2App.exe :)

What I miss is CRCGEN !

If anyone has it, contact me!

Bin2App.exe [-F] -iAPP ╬─╝■├√1 ╬─╝■├√2 -o ║╧▓ó║≤╡─╬─╝■
