hi sry for troubling you guys. But i need to ask some questions regarding the Lg gt540 2.1 baltic rom

1)Firstly does it require the phone to be rooted?

2)If so, does universal androot work?

3)What are the chances that my phone will get bricked and is there any way to prevent this or reverse the effect if it really happens?

4)Can i still update to the official Singapore 2.1 firmware when it is released using the lgMobile update?

5)Are there any functions of the phone that are not working in the rom

6)If universal androot is used and i unroot the phone when running the 2.1 rom what will happen

Ok thanks a million for helping. Sry im a noob in these types of thing

1) No

2) No, but on the forum you can found the method how to root 2.1

3) Usually update is easy. If you brick your phone you can reboot in emergency mode and try to flash firmware again. You must to know if you flash android 2.1 you can't downgrade to 1.6.

4) No, you can't using lg update program, but you can get the kdz and flash it.

5) All functions works well, only when you record video the file is in 3gp format and quality is worse then previous mp4

6) You can not use androot but if you use manual method who is posted on the forum you can unroot the phone if you have some technical knowledge about Linux shell commands. You just need to remount /system partition in read-write mode and delete some things ( su, busybox, Superuser.apk)

Thanks for your answers. I just want to know if i can 'update' my phone to my country's official 2.1 firmware after flashing this. And Just to confirm again, I dont have to root? Will there be any features that i will miss out if i update to this than the official one for my country

Yes, you can update to your country firmware when it's released using kdz_update software. And yes you don't need rooted phone to update. About the features if your countries provider have custom apps in the firmware they will be installed after you update.

What do you mean with "data"? If you telling about user data such as contacts and installed programs on your phone, yes they will be lost after update. You can backup them with Astro file manager and then install them again from backup files.

If you tell about internet settings i really don't know about them. If they will be deleted you just need to add them manual call to your provider support and ask for settings.

p.s.

Sorry for my bad english, if you don't understand tell me and i will try to explain in other way

You need to re-enter the AP settings, that's all.

Root has nothing to do with if you can install a firmware or not, neither does network locks.

I cannot comment on the quality change but the video files produced on my 1.6 phone which ended in .mp4 were not playable as mp4 files on the players I tried (linux). They played fine if renamed to .3gp files though. Perhaps the only change is to correctly name the files?

just to comment on the 3g issue I have lost 3g in Greece using the vodafone network since upgrading. this is after manually entering the settings and confirming them with vodafone themselves.

I expect that installing the country specific version will fix this problem when that becomes available.

Fortunately I do not need 3g at the moment.

Let's hope they will do something about the 2G issues of Vodafone GR too. I don't expect much though, the other 2 carriers seem to have no problems.

It always does for a few seconds, you'll just have to wait and it carries on.

Thats right, but there is another issue...

I'm from germany and using the france Version/Bouygues Branding right now. The problem is that after re-entering APN Settings i'm no longer reachable. BUT data connection is working. same problem with the other 2.1 rom files.

any suggestions ?

thanks in advance
