nexus one wont boot

Hey guys

so I was playing around with my phone today thinking that CM6 was epic fail compared to the desire rom...which is better at battery management.

My N1 is not properly rooted, as in I have not unlocked the bootloader but instead used the universal androot 1.6.2 beta 6 root method.

Now, I wanted to check out the MIUI roms that have been created so I downloaded/moved to SDcard and used ROM Manager to install the rom.

It went through but then once it rebooted, it does not load.

Instead, I have the default google logo (blue, red, yellow, green) cross logo.

I think the device has no rom on it because when I attached my SDCard to the laptop; I could not find any partitions on it.

I can, still boot into a menu (holding down volume down and power button then releasing).

If I choose recovery, it shows the android + exclamation mark.

pressing some random buttons (still dont know what i am pressing), i get a blue boot menu called "Android system recovery (3e)".

I have option called apply sdcard:update.zip

Can I just download froyo FRF91 and then install it?

Don't wanna be told I cant do anything.

I thought I had the clockworkmod recovery installed by I think it didn't install or for some reason it installed it to the SDCard.

DO I have/need to unlock/root my device in order to install an OS on it properly now?

Ah..sorry for the utter-nooob questions... i am epic-noob.

thanks,

fids.

I'm not sure what is causing your device to be unable to boot. By your description, I have gathered you have a stock recovery installed. Try downloading the EPF30 stock rom, renaming it passimg.zip, and placing it on the root of your SD card. Then try powering your phone on while holding the volume down button. Your phone will (should) read the passimg file and prompt you to update. Confirm this and allow the process to complete. When it finishes, your phone will be running stock EPF30 from which you can use Universal AndRoot to root, download ROM Manager, install a custom recovery, and reflash a custom ROM of your choice.

Good luck.
