Hook it up to your PC via USB and stick it in DFU mode (from off, hold both the hardware buttons until the USB logo and "DFU" appear on screen). Let it try and find drivers (it won't) and that's it. Hold the power button for about 10 secs until it shuts down and unplug again.
I did this after reading how rovex said it seemed to have sorted his problems out and lo and behold, I haven't had a dropped connection or interruption in service for about an hour since doing this and it would have dropped numerous times by now if I hadn't.
Still not getting any Facebook updates mind but music controls (stock android music app), Twitter updates, RSS feeds and texts are all coming through just fine.
Does data sync really have to be on to get all this stuff pushed through? It's just really caning the battery on both devices.
Once again, thanks go to Rovex for finding this out but I thought I'd better create a new thread to inform the masses or they might have missed his post.
Cheers dude.......
Edit: After turning the device off the problems all came flooding back again upon restarting so this isn't a fix at all but it's strange how it worked after the DFU insertion until reboot.
Hopefully that means something to someone.
Rovex....hope you're having better luck with yours.
