Alternative keyboard?

I've not had the same problem as you and have tried a couple of other keyboards and think Smart Keyboard Pro to be really good on the Vega

Mainly because its very custom-able - non full screen (in any orientation) once I adjusted the hight of the keys, I can type with pretty good speeds :P

I've installed smartkeyboard and checked it in the settings but it's still bringing up the default one for some reason, tried a reboot too.

Hard press (for 3 seconds) in your typing area and select input method = smart keyboard pro :P

This is my first efffort with smart keyboard pro. Seems like a big improvement from the stock android me keyboard, quite impressed. Is it easy to change the functions and that? Wouldn't mind making the voice button comma as stsndard

I keep getting repeat characters when typing and "i" appearing when using the delete key, has anyone tried an alternative keyboard on the Vega yet?

I had the same problem until I updated.

Have you applied the updates?

If you have then maybe it just needed to "bed in"?? :P

I'm running 1.4+r2 and I still get "sticky" keys even on the "swiftkeys" keyboard. But I've confirmed that its the capacitive screen and/or drivers that are to blame as I can replicate a "stuck" point on the multitouch test app

Edit: AHA! I think I've worked it out. It's CPU load!

The higher the cpu load the more likely the touchscreen is to skip incomming touch events, the most obvious of those would the the "finger-up" event that results in a "long-press" when we only tap. this shouldn't be the case at all. I'll see if I can get a video together to show the @AdventVega twitter guy

Smart Keyboard or Ultra Keyboard!

SilentMobius - are you on the performance pack?

P

Yeah I am, but the auto-search-as-you-type in the browser URL field seems to be enough to cause keys to stick, especially when I'm deleting. I'll try those two though.

Edit. Yeah I really like Smart Keyboard Pro. But keys still stick. I'm pretty convinced the touch driver is dropping touch events when it gets short of CPU.

Installed smart keyboard trial and all working fine.

Then put on the pro version and I've lost the swype feature. Can't see it in settings. Anyone please let me know how to get it back

Thanks

Damn I'm wrong, just tried loading up the CPU with "cat /dev/urandom | gzip > /dev/null" on 6 different adb sessions and I didn't get any increase in the dropped touch events, at least none that resulted in stuck touch events. :P

Back to the drawing board there.

I gave "Slide IT" (my Desire keyboard of choice) a go earlier. Was good for one hand typing whilst holding the Vega but not so great for anything else. Ideally I would like the Smart Keyboard Pro layout with Slide IT's slide funtion over the top of that!!!

This should the file but you need to enable it in settings>language and keyboard before it will show up as an option in input method.

So far it seems to be pretty good and better than the standard.

What I would like is one of those radial keyboards for just using thumbs. I think it was samsung that used to make those really early tablets/pda that used them. Wouldnt like it for everyday but might be nice for quick messages.

Paul tweeted about learning to use MessageEase. It's a radial style keyboard with a neat game that you can use to help learn the layout. Only problem is I find it FCs quite a bit while you're in the middle of typing something which is not very helpful.
