You don't mean flash Ubuntu onto the hero.. which is what people probably think reading the title..
you mean flash a new ROM on the phone using Ubuntu on the PC instead of windows right?
im not sure how you usually flash a ROM.. but assuming you have a custom recovery, you can connect the phone to ubuntu as long as you set it to mass storage mode on the phone when you connect it.. it will appear as a mass storage device in Ubuntu.. and you can copy a signed zip on there.. unmount it.. and use the phones recovery menu to flash the zip..
You dont need a pc to do the flashingt.. just to get it on there.. which linux can do just fine.
