... would seem to be the answer to streaming media through the standard player (and hence getting hardware accelerated video over the net). Is one easily available/compilable? Is anyone working on/going to look at this soon?

the module needs to be compiled for the specific kernel version

not sure if it might be possible to hex edit one from another device though

Surely that should be pretty easy to do then - assuming we know which kernel version is in use (I'm assuming it's like all other *nixes and that it'll tell you at the drop of a hat...).

We don't have the kernel source yet. Paul has asked @AdventVega on twitter

I have a wd nas drive and it streams to stock video player using inbuilt twonky software to browse device.

I don't want to use a UPnP server... I just want cifs support...

Have problems with umlauts on 1.08/r7...

I think that there is only cifs support in the MCK for the Vega.
