Sony LiveView

Ok, so I really love gadgety watches, its a thing I have.. I used to have one the Fossil Palm Pilot watches for christ sake, I perpetually walked in circles the thing was so heavy.

Anyway, always on the scour for a relatively cheap geektastic piece of s*** plastic to throw on my wrist, I saw the Sony Liveview, thought 'ooooh', did some googling and thought 'eewwww' then saw that expansys were selling it cheap with free postage which made them cheapest around (who'd have thought it!) and all in under fifty quid.

..bought it.

Anyways, I was (note the 'was', that'll become relevant in a second) using the with sense MCR on my desire and it was causing all hell of a load of issues with the liveview, there was just something strange going on between the two devices that would cause either/both of them to lock up..

So, I'd read on xda some guy wasn't seeing the bluetooth stack issue, but he was using a sense-less ui, and that got me to thinking.. is the issue rom specific, I mean Sony-Ericson must have done SOME testing with devices, and something this bad should never leave testing, let alone hit the shelves in the stores.. (only way to get it to respond is a hard reset power cycle, and this will usually not actually connect but at least will stop showing the bloody 0:00 screen).

So this weekend I started playing with roms, tried the sense-less MCR but a previous cockup on my rom buggered that up (yeah I should have wiped data etc, I know this now...) so after a bit of cleanup I put cyanogen on.. and I gotta be honest, its a lot better.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a piece of s***, it DOES drop the connection relatively quickly (approx 15 mins) but it will usually reconnect again when prodded, because it's not getting stuck in a reconnect loop the battery is actually surprisingly good (charge nightly for all day use) and now the widgets are starting to appear its occasionally actually useful at telling you stuff you would have missed otherwise.

However, there's one thing that is important. Because it's not getting it's knickers in a twist constantly trying to reconnect to bluetooth until it needs a hard reset it retains it's clock, so as a watch it works, and to be honest I can live with waiting a couple of months for a firmware update to straighten out its foibles with staying connected to my device, as long as it tells me the time when I need it to.

geeky watch ftw ;)

Don't know the specifics of this device, but Sense based ROMs have caused plenty bluetooth issues with other things. It was the single issue that made me move to Cyanogen, where all my BT issues vanished.

Have you tried any other ROMs?

I've hardly read of anyone with an SE device (X10) having these issues? Does anyone know if that is the case? Or if there are just as many problems.

I am an X10 owner and if it works flawlessly, I think Im gonna buy one..

O.O ok strongly suggest a google-fest, these devices are reknown for a LOT of issues.

Also, if your x10 is 2.1 upwards then fine, but if not, it wont even connect.. awesome huh?

erm, kinda, but had issues (newbie related) with my rom installations, so I'd tentatively say Pauls senseless MCR looks good with the liveview but I moved away from it cos I had issues with cross propagated apps from other roms I was messing aroud with..

Well, of course Im on 2.1 as Liveview wont work with 1.6 anyways :)

Trust me, I know of all the issues with the phone - but not with how the phone and Liveview interact :)

I am using liveview and galaxy tab, freezing the tab and need to force reset it. There is a post on Xda for galaxy tab and openwatch for a possible work around on connection and freeze issue, disabling the bluetooth pbap service and force stop the bluetooth share under application.

So far mine seems fine after disabling both. Hope it helps.

I havent got my liveview yet (roll on tomorrow) but using defrost (which is essentially cyanogen mod) my bluetooth connection drops every time I make a bluetooth connection with my car kit yet with sense roms its fine. Has anyone tried a stock rom with these?

heres my findings with the live view. ( no disrespect to the rom providers below by the way, ive been using these roms for a long time and other than this issue theyve been superb)

I have applied this fix to all three roms below but only the cyanogen rom seems to work properly with minfreemanager

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...734&page=19 (last post)

Using stock rom with power saving modules (teppics) the live view is awful, disconnects very regular and wont reconnect without reboots. Using stock rom without any mods and its not much better

Using defrost 6.1a works well until the phone goes to sleep then all connection is lost, as long as the phone is kept awake its fine

cyanogen latest nightly build, same as defrost until I applied the above fix. Now it seems to keep a stable connection for the most part, one or two disconnects but it seems to reconnect again ok. (which pretty much backs up the ops findings)

on all of them I have to reopen the liveview app on the phone before it will play, none of them will connect directly without it

Im going to play about with a few different roms over the next few days when I get chance, maybe see if its the kernels or the power saving mods having any effect

edit : busy testing a HD Rom at present as recommnded by someone on XDA forums. So far ive had 8 hours without a disconnect so ill keep testing
