SUCCESS After a couple of false starts (trying to install update-1.4.6-nobb.zip on a 309-11548 build). I started from scratch: Using rebelsim v1.2 Installed 4399. Installed 8105. Installed update-1.4.6-nobb.zip using recovery-alt.img. Now boot was in a loop. Rebooted. Vol-up+Vol-down+start. Performed 1. Factory reset. It now boots beautifully - and FAST. Telstra data is OK (but only EDGE/GPRS - no H or 3G because Telstra is on 850 band) Virgin Mobile is OK - 3G and H - because Optus in on 900 band.
