I have attached a zip the following thread, it will flash Pauls recovery and a more standard bootloader to the Vega so you can boot recovery from the more standard method of Power+Volume Up.

This was the original idea of Bumble-Bee,

You need to be in bootloader/brick recovery mode to flash this, please refer to other threads how to do this if you don't already know,

Enjoy

Thanks, So does this mean the Clockwork Recovery can be obtained by Power and Volume up? So DO I need the clockwork recovery on to flash it

Thanks

Hmmm first ever black screen of death of whatever people have been calling it after flashing this, I shall try a clean install of 1.06.5 and then flash the recovery again

Perhaps I'm missing something, but how is this different from what we have in the "29/Nov 2.5.1.3: ClockworkMod for the Advent Vega" topic?

The recovery.img file is the same. The only different thing is the flashing method:

nvflash --bl bootloader.bin --download 6 recovery.img
@set /p batuserinput=Press enter to continue:[/codebox]

This just overwrites the recovery partition, not the bootloader. Incidentally, I'm unable to enter recovery mode by pressing POWER+VOLUMEUP. I've even tried with POWER+VOLUMEDOWN and the "Boot into recovery" option from ROM Manager without success.

Maybe best to wait for Adam but I suspect if you followed instructions in this thread:

http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...-rom-installer/

Using Adams recovery and bootloader you may get the desired result. However, you'll lose your data if you don't substitute images from you're own nandroid backup.

Don't do this if you don't understand it. I probably wont have time to play myself untilled the weekend

Decent of you to do this for us Adam, I understand you are selling your Vega as you dont like the screen.

Wasnt too impressed with the screen when I got mine but really doesnt bother me at all now, think I was being a bit picky really. Would be nice to have a better quality screen but for the price I still think its a steal.

I think its fairly self explanitory you flash this by the method I posted above, unfortunately at present i can't get it to work. Still working on it though

unfortunately I haven't been able to get this to work, tried flashing the files a number of times, and also lots and lots of combinations of power +vol up and unable to get it to boot to recovery, just loads up as normal. Also had my first ever black screen where it wouldn't boot. Also tried dropping the the bootloader.bin and recovery.img into the original 1.06.5 and flashing that, but the unit wouldn't even power on. I'll see how the thread develops and go back to the old method for now.

Think we need more info from Adam then. The nvflash command pasted above would not flash the bootloader. If you drop the bootloader into the Vega zip and modify the flash.cfg and drop in your the recovery image that should flash both. Having said that i tried something similar with the gtab bootloader and that didn't work either so we need to know where the bootloader came from and exactly how Adam used it I think

So does this mean it has installed the Clockwork mod now? Do I need to be worried about turning my device off for fear of the BSOD?

No :D

In the unlikely event it occurs, you could just reboot back into recovery, and if that doesn't work

boot into NVFlash

Reflash this

then reboot back into recovery

And in the highly unlikely event that doesn't work, you just reflash back to stock :P

Edit:

To avoid confusing, to your first question: yes, clockwork recovery is now flashed B)

Edit2:

That is when it's working. I'd advise not to flash this until it's fixed and confirmed to be working.

This simply isn't working at all. I have tried various methods to flash it, including modifying the original softwareImage_v1.06_05_Vega_Final.exe file's bootloader.bin with Adam's but no matter what I tried, my Vega just wouldn't boot, not even to a BSOD, with BSOD's the backlight comes on with a blank screen at least!.

Yeah completely dead when I did that too, only charging light on

oh dear, that doesn't sound too good? usually a charging light means that you can still recover it though.

Nup, I was in the middle of flashing it when I posted lol.

Not one for noobs to flash on the off chance it might work until it's fixed, don't fancy a load of new "bricked" vega threads :D

Edit:

Reply to above

Yea you can still get it back into NVFlash mode and flash it back, its just a PITA trying to get it switched off because of the reflective glass and lack of backlight :P

You cant brick a Vega, make sure you have your battery fully charged keep the power cable in and then boot into bootloader mode, you can always recover the Vega period!

Whilst doing a lot of testing on mine I thought I had bricked it multiple times but every time I was able to reload the stock firmware and start over.

I had exactly the same problem as you, so I'm using the default bootloader now. I hope that this can be fixed though.

Adam I know you have sold the device but could you document in what context you used the bootloader. I'm wonderring if you tested it with the stock firmware or the mod you were working on? Is it the gtab bootloader or just a modified Vega one. I've tried the gtab one and that failed in a similar way to that described in this thread. Did you repartition flash by any chance by using a custom flash.cfg file. Just trying to understand where the problem is.
