Peeps: If the install fails, 'lots of errors' doesn't really help me diagnose the problem. ;)

P

I will try again when r4 comes out (was about to try r3 but may as well wait an hour or so), i just flashed the Vega back to a clean 1.08 base image and will post all messages to Pastebin

Alright dudes, funtime - pre4 (with Performance Pack) now in the first post.

;)

P

Bah! Just finished installing r3 via cwm. Went fine.

Good work mate. Prefer cwm installs personally. Easier to nandroid and flash all in one go.

Looking forward to the real r7 :-)

Hi Paul,

I am new to android, and have tried successfully your R6 release on my vega bought 5 days ago.

I am very worried because i have downloaded the R7, unpacked it in a R7 folder and ran in administrative mod the install-windows.bat

Error message during the install, the tablet is now rebooting and rebooting ... and i keep having a black screen.

On my computer scrreen i have the following message

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive

\Device\Harddisk1\DR31

Can you help ? please ?

Updated Maps included in pre4, will save you about 5MB on /data!

P

Thanks - can't keep up - going from pre2 to pre4 now - you need a 'Thanks' button - save all these posts cluttering the threads (I feel bad if I don't say Thank you :-)

Never seen that message. What were the errors during the install?

As requested Paul, This installation was performed on a clean 1.08 install with r7 pre 4 through adb on Windows XP SP3

Install still fails (also checked the MD5 codes before install and they checked out ok, anything else before i flash a clean 1.08 and use clockwork)

On the basis I was going to rebuild my Vega anyway I thought I'd give pre4 a go this is what I got

Win7 64 bit, Vega running 1.0.8 with r6, small bar, no PP

Waiting for device... ensure 'USB Debugging' is enabled in Settings-Applications

-Development and connect to PC...

adb server is out of date. killing...

* daemon started successfully *

Mounting and emptying system partition...

remount succeeded

1260 KB/s (768320 bytes in 0.595s)

- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: Permission denied (13) -

- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: Permission denied (13) -

- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: Permission denied (13) -

- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: Permission denied (13) -

Waiting for device...

- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: Permission denied (13) -

- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: Permission denied (13) -

Copying new files...

push: files/data/app/com.modaco.vegausbmode.apk -> /data/app/com.modaco.vegausbmode.apk

push: files/data/app/com.adobe.flashplayer.apk -> /data/app/com.adobe.flashplayer.apk

I quit the process at that point, I rather suspect I will have to nvflash considering it appears to have deleted my system, partition.

I can hold off and run commands if necessary.

pre4 certainly "feels" faster. There are some occasional video artifacts on progress bars and the notification bar (horizontal, short white lines).

Can a Windows person test the below for me!

In install-windows.bat, FIND:

adb-windows.exe push files\data\mcr\sh /data/sh
and AFTER, ADD:
adb-windows.exe shell "/sbin/busybox chmod 4755 /data/sh"

Hopefully that should resolve the issue!

Hi,

I flashed 1.08, then applied this new r4 patch by running the install-windows bat file

Here's the errors I got

<snip>

And now it's forever booting.

I'm a complete noob at all of this, but have successfully applied other firmware versions and MCR addons for the Vega.

Hope this helps

See above for a test fix for Windows users.

Flash fix (via ADB): 'adb shell pm install -r /data/app/com.adobe.flashplayer.apk' (replace with adb-mac / adb-linux / adb-windows as required)

Installed pre4 over pre3 via cwm. Working perfect.

Not noticed screen artifacts yet, only ever got them mildly before.

Quadrant gave first score of 1700 and second score of 2500 don't think ill bother with it from now on. Overall feel is faster.

pre4 flashed with cwm and hanging on the booting screen. No errors when it flashed. Given that its working for others I'm goint to try it with nvflash. I'll try formatting misc first too
