Ideally you'd want it to fit in a reduced size /system partition (122mb & 128mb are common sizes). Large apps which are available in the market should be left out, then the user can decide whether they want them or not. Any apps which get frequent updates should be left out too, because they'll use twice as much space on your phone as it keeps the old copy in /system & puts the update in /data, it creates more hassle for you updating your rom too. Google Talk isn't available on the market, so that should be included. Blade WiFi Fix is small & doesn't seem to get updated, that could be included. Flash Light (American torch, not to be confused with Flash Lite) is also really small, useful & doesn't get updated. Youtube & Gmail are worth including too, they don't get updated often, aren't huge & most people use them. Google Maps is quite large & has frequent updates, I wouldn't include that, same for Facebook. You'll also want the working FM Radio app, it's been posted on Modaco, use the search to find it. The fundamental Google apps: Market, EMail, GMail, the stock Dialler, Music, Video and Gallery players, Contacts, etc. Keep it minimal. The rest of Google's Apps can be downloaded via Market. Then, if you want, install any additional apps directly from the Market. This allows the user to easily uninstall them via Settings/Market instead of going the Term+su route of rm'ing+pm uninstall'ing any packages the user doesn't want. Creating a satisfying custom ROM is challenging not only because you've gotta build the thing, but you've also gotta try satisfy your intended audience; the only problem with the audience, though, is that everyone is different. So do what you can to pacify the average modder, while allowing the purists the opportunity to easily remove anything they don't want and revert as closely to a vanilla Android distribution as feasible. Do updated apps really take up double the room if they were in system? You can integrate the update with Titanium anyway, so it's a moot point. Guest blade2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Report Share Posted February 6, 2011 +1 for a slim system partition, maybe even shrinked with tpt My Whishlist for system would contain: - The latest gapps - Working FM Radio - Alarmclock with captcha support - Root support - Wifi Fix - Gingerbread keyboard My personal removal list: - default calculator - gtalk (the parts that may be removed without breaking the market) - car home - provider apps And the things I always install but get updated to often to put them into system - RealCalc - Widgetsoid - AdFree Android - myBackup Root - ADW Launcher - Data counter Widget - OI filemanager and notes - Stopwatch & Countdown - most important: shaver - maps Maybe those could come preinstalled on the userdata partition to be easily removed and updated. cheers, blade Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You can integrate the update with Titanium anyway, so it's a moot point. Yeah, the old version stays in system (it's mounted read only) & the update takes up room in /data. Sorry but seems you should have a deeper look into the whole thing before modding one more rom that is basically one that already is fine. Or perhaps try to help some other rom devs to get theirs better. Would be nicer to have some good working ones instead of many that no one really uses. Just my 2 cents...
