gt540 help

Hi Guys

I really hope that some one can help me here. I got an lg gt540 a few days ago and this is my first step into the Android world, I was told it would be a better thing to get an Android phone then an iphone, so I am completely blank when it comes to how Android works etc. Well any way I downloaded the LGMobile Support Tool from the LG website. I downloaded all the drivers it asked me to download and then I plugged in my gt540. It told me there were updates available for my phone so to go ahead and click the "Start Updating" button ( it said I was running 1.6 and the update was to 2.1 ) I did this and everything seemed to be going fine but at 4% the updater stopped and the screen on my phone turned blue and something like emergency mode/call was written on it. I wasn't sure if this was part of the update process so I left it like that for nearly 2 hours but when I came back the updater was still stuck at 4% and the screen was still blue. I tried to cancel the update to start again, but it had frozen my pc ( windows 7 ) so I had to shut down my pc and I tried to turn off my phone but no matter how long I pressed the power button it wouldn't turn off so I removed the battery and turned it back on but instead of the phone starting now there is just a black screen with "Fastboot Mode" written on it. I tried plugging it back into my pc but nothing happens. I tried taking out the battery holding buttons etc. but nothing works. The closest I came was to put the phone into "Download Mode" and for a second my pc recognized the phone but then it didn't.

I really haven't got a clue where to go from here is my phone dead or am I not doing something right when I plug it into my pc. I know you guys are pros when it comes to Android so i would be really grateful if someone could help me with this. Like I said I haven't got a clue about the Android operating system, I'll openly admit that, so if you can help and could explain it to a complete novice on how to fix this I would be really thankful.

All the best

I've just updated using that thread from 1.6 to 2.1

When you download the KDZ Updater make sure that you install MSXML first, its in with the update.

Also goto device manager and look for modems/LGE Virtual Modem and disable it.

Lots of people on here have said dont use the LG updater this one is better,Hope you sort it out.

Thanks guys

I have tried all of those things but i am still getting no good of the phone. I tried to download the KDZ updater but it wouldn't work. When I tried to open the.exe file for it an error just appeared saying that some .dll files are not installed on the computer and it shut itself. I tried to double click the .dll files that were in the folder but they wouldn't install. There was no sign of that MSXML file in the folder I downloaded. I had to download the folder from a different link because when I tried to get it from the link that you guys gave me it wouldn't download. Also in the system/hardware...modem there is no sign of the LGE Virtual Modem to disable.

Maybe the KDZ folder I downloaded was corrupted, I'll see can I find a different link for it somewhere and hopefully I can get this sorted. Although at this stage I'm beginning to wonder if I killed my phone.

Thanks a million again for getting back guys, I really appreciate the advice.

All the best.

Thanks a million for posting. I downloaded a new kdz folder and this one seems to be working ( well it opens ) the thing is once it opens I can't choose any of the boxes there, they are all grey and the selection thing won't work. Is there something I am meant to do to get my phone ready before I open the kdz updater. When I hold down the volume key and power button my phone turns on with "Download Mode" written on the screen but I seen on your post something about flashing a suitable rom and then use the kdz updater mode in cs_emergency. How do I flash a suitable rom to my phone? Sorry about all the questions but this thing has me baffled.

I also emailed LG support looking for an answer to what went wrong and this is all they said: "From the information you have given us it sounds like there has been a loss of connectivity between your phone and the update. Because of this the phone has been left without a fully functioning operating system. To resolve this problem the best course of action will be to book the phone in for repair with ourselves" The question I ask myself is if so many people seem to be having a problem with the LG updater why don't they fix it.

To be honest I would rather fix my phone with the help of you guys then send it away to LG, god only knows how long they would take to fix it and get it back to me...oh and I'm sure they would be only to happy to charge me for fixing it.

Again guys I really appreciate all the help you are giving me with this. I'm sure I am messing up somewhere and your advice is sound so please stick with me. I looked at the link the infernal gave me but the instructions there seemed to be for a phone that you could at least turn on or was responsive in some way my one just wants to show me a black screen with either "Fastboot Mode" or "Download Mode" displayed on the screen. When it is "Download Mode" and I connect it to my PC it's like it's connected for a few seconds and then I hear a beep from my PC like the phone was after unplugging itself, I looked in My Computer to see what drives etc. were connected to my computer and even though the phone was plugged in through the usb port it wasn't showing up on the system.

Again guys thanks for any and all help and advice you are giving me with this.

ok heres what you have to do 1st download a rom from here which you find best according to your needs

http://android.modaco.com/content/lg-gt540...pdates-from-lg/

after that download the kdz updater

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=M6SPX17D

run the mxml whatever thingy

and then open the kdz updater as administrator and select the kdz file

then put your phone in download mode and as soon as you connect start the upgrader it might seem as the upgrader is not responding but thats how its supposed to be then somthing like Cfn call_upgrade or somthing will come dont do anything wait for a few mins and the upgrade will start it will take 5-10 mins after it comes written **finished** you can remove your phone

hope this helps......

Hi,

it is also very important that you plug your phone usb cable in one of usb ports on the back of your computer. :P

yea forgot that....and make sure you start the upgrade as soon as you connect it :D

Now to really throw a spanner in the works, anytime I searched my devices on the laptop, that lg modem device is nowhere to be seen even a search brings up nothing. Does this need to be on my laptop even if I do have to disable it?

Ah guys I reckon this phone hates me :D

No matter what I do I can't get the kdz updater to work. It opens no problem but the boxes are all still grey and it won't let me select the rom file. I downloaded the updater from the link on this site as well as the rom file so I take it that the updater on this site is working so I really can't figure where I'm going wrong.

I downloaded the LG Moben thing again from the LG site and it installed no problem but yet when I look for it in my device manager it is no where to be found. I'm slowly beginning to think that fixing this phone is beyond me. Is there any where else I can download the kdz updater maybe the one I have is corrupt, although if it is posted on this site chances are it's not and it's just my computer and phone trying to drive me crazy :P I know I'm plaguing you guys now but any ideas left or is it time to call it a day on this phone?

All the best
