Vega for children's learning

My daughter is now 22-months old, but since she was very young she's been interested in computers. She'll try to type while your on the laptop, or she wiggles the mouse around on my PC, and she loves playing flash-games with me online.

Unfortunately, she's still too young to understand how a mouse and keyboard interacts with the screen properly, but on the laptop she will happily point to what she wants on the screen. So that's one of the reasons I bought the Vega, to see if she could get used to computing if you took the mouse and keyboard out of the picture and she could tap directly on the screen.

Wow, I was right! She picked it up almost immediately and now she happily uses my Vega daily, she has several games on there that she loves (her favorite is Zoodles: Kid Mode) but she also happily navigates the CBeebies websites and plays flash games/watches flash videos (which is one of the main reasons I didn't want an iPad).

So now the only problem is... Getting it back off her so I can use it :)

Not sure if this qualifies as an "unusual" use? But I'm not sure how many people would let their young children attack their tablets ;) For me it's important she learns and has an understanding of computers from a young age, so I'm very happy :(

Ahhhh sweet. From small acorns....

you might want to correct the spelling of advent on the you tube title ;-)

You can't beat a cup of Cheerios and a sit down in front of the Vega. :-D

Wooow, I have a 18 months old grand daughter. Will visit her next month. Maybe she is interested in using a Android tablet as well.

Nice =) I presume you have 'Art of Glow'? If not, download it - she'll love it! My daughter is 5 and I have trouble getting my Vega off her lol!

One thing I did find.......make sure you have screen lock on or you'll find stuff mysteriously disappearing/moving or even uninstalled!

Thats awesome, were currently deploying iPads in schools in our area and its dissapointing that so little is being done here with android equivalents. Apart from the obvious money saving considerations an Android tablet can offer a much needed alternative and a break from Apple's rdf.

Another lovely example of this today:

My wife has to go away overnight tonight for a seminar, and so she won't see our daughter after she comes back from daycare tonight and won't see her until tomorrow evening.

So, my wife headed over to the Zoodles website (this is the app my daughter uses every day) and recorded herself reading a bedtime story. So tonight, when I pick my daughter up and she's wondering where her mum is, we can go through the book together, and as you turn page by page, the book is there, with text and images (like a normal book) but there is also a small video frame (using flash) with a video of my wife reading that page... My daughter will love it!

Also, you don't get this feature on the iPad version of this app :D
